My Red Sex-Link, Ronnie, started to lay at around the same time my Speckled Sussex did--at 19 weeks. While Pippa has continued to lay on an almost daily basis, Ronnie laid two eggs, and then stopped. She hasn't laid an egg since the incident I'm about to talk about below. Nothing seems to be wrong with her; Ronnie is a big, clever, handsome girl who always looks at me as though I've done something wrong.
But I have always read that her breed is an early layer and wondered if it was unusual for her to lay two and then stop completely.
Two days ago, we had five eggs in the coop on the same day. One was soft-shelled, so I figured that must have been hers, as none of the others had her signature medium brown shell we documented last month. Pippa has been laying for so long that we know her eggs by heart, and the others have slowly followed her lead. All but Ronnie.
Any idea what's up with this?
Just a little FYI, everyone has open access to oyster shells.
