Hello, I have a pair of Silkies they are about 8-9 months old.
Both laying, both eating well, one is laying on average 5-6 a week the other 4-5 a week.
I can feel there breast bone slightly & was wondering if this is common in the breed?

If you can only feel the breastbone a little, it is probably normal. Even with healthy chickens, you can feel the breastbone.

But, if it is extremely prominent or pointy, they may be too thin. Then, you'd have to look for a reason for that. It could be that they are getting pushed away from the feeder. Or, they could have worms, in which case you'd have to deworm them. Mites and lice can cause birds to become thin as well.

Hello, I only have 2 silkies in my flock & no other birds You can only feel the breast bone a little, they have been wormed & took a sample to the vets to get it checked & all came back worm/egg free. So all is good there

A neighbour who used to keep silkies said you can slightly feel there breast bone in silkies, I just wanted a little reassurance I suppose.
Thank you
