Last night I went to shut chickens up and one appeared to have fallen from roost, was laying with her head cocked to the side pressed against the wall. If she wouldn’t have been breathing heavy I would have thought she was dead by the way she was laying. I examined her and tucked her away in a...
My biggest thing is this is the 4th or 5th time I have had hens go broody and the only chick ever hatched so I was only simi prepared because I didn’t really think it was going to happen. We have just bought 3 big bags of layer feed a day before the little peep popped out. I know this sounds...
I had a broody that hatched 1 egg. Sweetest interaction in the world. Anyway I have kept them in the coop with the flock and they are doing great. The only issue I am having is that the bigs are eating the starter grower and I’m not sure how much of it the baby is actually getting. Suggestions...
Ok I have a rather funny situation. I had 2 broody hens and only 1 chick hatch between the two clutches. Now they are both trying to momma the chick. Should I just let them be or is there a highly likelyhood of negative ramifications?

Update on eggs, we are down to 2. One...
Ok guys I have a broody hen sitting on 3 fertile eggs. We are about 2 weeks I don’t know exact because I was very sick for a week and my husband isn’t as observant about these things. My best guess is 15 days in maybe . Last time we had 5 fertile eggs but none hatched It’s a different hen this...
Well I’m going to try saddles for a bit. We are working on building a separate enclosure at the end of the existing run so they can see each other if we have to separate for any reason. I have 6 saddles made so far, this is one ☝️. I have plenty of scrap material so no cost to make and the girls...
I have 27 hens and 1 Roo. He is almost a year old and very friendly with humans. A good portion of my girls have bald backs/heads from him though. He is not mean just really ruff with them. Is there any solution aside from separating him from the flock? I don’t know that it actually would but I...
