Good news! Henrietta maybe a hen after all: no streamers, no spurs. Meds worked very well: infection is gone, lost sight (eye looks like it had cataract with white on the lens) but didn’t loose her eye. Putting some vitamin A ointment hoping it may help.
And most importantly she has a home to go...
Sorry to hear that.
We all get attached to them. I joined backyards chicken 7 years ago when my rescued one eye one valid hen Chica got very sick. I had rescued her from the side of the road. A juvenile had avian pox a crooked leg. Anyway, years later she got very sick and after 3 months of tube...

Not much of a comb and best shot I could take tonight.
Hello
So I rescued that youngster someone dumped on the road to the ranch. Got obviously attacked and about to loose one eye and was so stinky: bad bad infection. My vet (horse) suggested Chloramphenicol dose is 50 mg/kg 3 x day I started tonight after two days on Clindamycin (don’t have more)...

Hi, Goliath my rooster lost one eye to avian pox a couple of years ago. Now he got pecked badly and his good eye was swollen. Eventually took him to the vet ($315!) said eyeball looks intact so gave 10 days of antibiotics plus Metacam. His one eye looks good after 6 days but Goliath can’t see at...

I only give them papaya as treats! They have organic feed, I tried tomatoes but they don't like it!
And they are free roaming in my yard (and my neighbors' yards!) eating bugs and seeds here and there.
Yes I am far from an...
Thank you very much for your post and reply...
Interestingly I am a Biologist with a Ph-D in Oceanography so I meant well aware about bacterial resistance to antibiotics and the downside about also killing the good bacteria. I rescued Chica, my hen’s mama 6 years ago in the side of the road...
hello, two of my hens (late Chica’s babies) get avian pox. The feed supply told me to put “shoyu” (soy sauce) on the crusts using a Qtip and also gave me over the counter antibiotic pills. I know antibiotics don’t work against viruses but do help reduce associated bacterial infections.
Anyway...
