    Battery Powered Heat Lamp Question

What about using a thermostat so the heat does not come on 24/7. The use of 2 250 watt solar panels will charge in the day. I have 10 chicken tractors and to have power is impossible but needed to keep the water from freezing as well as the chickens. This is expensive but what choice to you/ I have?

Thanks that seems to work! Sound like we both have the same amount of hens at 100. So this system can supply enough feed? Do you add any oyster shells for calcium or in my case a few meal worms for protein? really thank you for the help!

My leghorns were not bad tasting, just not a lot of meat. I have 7 leghorns and two and two Black Australorp and have got a steady 7 to 8 eggs. I let the flock grow to about 30 at summer as they free range and therefor a lot less feed. Winter I thin them out and keep the best layers. I also get...

    CornishX hens are laying eggs

I have told they don’t breed as they don’t live long enough? I guess that is not true maybe i will try keeping a few of mine. I can tell the males from the female by both size and attitude funny. The one month old males are already holding their ground on the adults

I have some Pikens and got them for a renewable food source! Built a pond on the hill feed by a great spring. But coyotes got my females as they are easy targets nesting. Males seem to do well so far. will get some females early this year and process one of the males. Your right very gentle birds.
