    Showing off my favorite rooster!

Yeah his comb is cool, but he's not one that likes to be petted.

I found out who's been stealing my chickens!

    Her comb is falling off!

How do yo do that? Scissors? Scalpel? Fingernail clippers? Have you ever done it? Sorry about the tirade of questions, I'm just not sure how to go about it.

    Showing off my favorite rooster!

I love this guy! He always stands proud, makes sure the hens don't run out too far. He patrols on the roof of the barn, back and forth and back and forth. When he thinks a hen is getting too far away, he tears after her like a rocket and herds her back to the barn! I thinks he's just gorgeous...

I found out who's been stealing my chickens!

A coyote! In broad daylight! I was doing my chores, and heard a ruckus behind the barn. I went to check it out and there's a coyote trying to catch a chicken! He's got 8 so far. I ran him off that day and he hasn't grabbed anymore. Anyone know of good coyote deterrent?

    Her comb is falling off!

I have a sweet little hen, the children's favorite because she loves being held. But the other day, a rooster went to mount her and caught her comb, it was bleeding at the time but I thought it would heal on its own. Now, I don't know if she's scratching it herself, or if the other birds are...

    Chicken mating thread !!!

I have way too many roosters at the moment. I've seen them do the dance, but when one rooster sees anther mating then he wants to join in. It ends up being a gang bang and the poor hen runs away screaming after being jumped by 4 or 5 roosters!

Is this the "squat" I keep hearing about?

It's so eggcitng! My six ye old, bless her heart, found the egg. She was so excited to show me, she was running to the house and dropped the egg. She was worried I would be mad, I just didn't want her to be upset. There will be plenty more where that came from!

Is this the "squat" I keep hearing about?

That's what I thought! I'm so egggcited! I had noticed the other hens submitting to the roosters like that, and I wondered if that was a sign of eggs coming soon. Now I know! Thanks!

Is this the "squat" I keep hearing about?

I thought she seemed a little more mellow with the kids. I've been reading about when hens are ready to lay, and this one is all about the squat when we go to pet her. She also stretches her neck out, my kids think she just wants to cuddle!
