Had the same problem.. my tube the part that wraps around the winder thing was pinched shut for about 1 " and just needed to be pinched open again as the air could not escape. In case some one else hits this problem too
Hello! I am trying to figure out the ultimate hack. Yes, halving them is a great space saver, piecing them even more efficient.. but we still love a whole roasted bird periodically. Photos of how you keep them from slipping out and maximizing space in an upright would be lovely. I dream...
Late to add to this post but to encourage just the same. I sent a girlfriend of mine eggs for eating. They were stored in our basement, unwashed in whatever position they were placed there by my children. They then travelled in egg cartons 8 hours with no special care (eating eggs) and then...
Hello, I know this is an older thread but still this year. I use a styrofoam style hatcher for hatching in and find I need to fill all the channels, including the middle one with water 3/4 full each one to make it through the 3 to 6 window hatch window. I also keep a bottle that I can...
Just an update. I let the eggs sit in the incubator for 8 hours and then took them out and clean them with watered down and warmed up peroxide as it was the only thing I had on hand and candled the eggs. One was blank the rest looked promising. Everyone hatched and they all look very healthy...
The hen herself is covered in poop so I think we will be giving her a bath today. To be fair, she is in our kitchen which is not calm or quiet so she might have done better if left quietly on her own. But thinking we won't be encouraging this one to go broody again.
Hello! We have a broody hen who is somewhat challenged in that she insists on pooping without getting off her nest. She gets up to eat and drink but won't get off the eggs to poop. Day 18 and noticed she is not sitting on some of the eggs and that she got poop on pretty much all of them so I...
Came up on my youtube feed and curious if this is worth considering as I hear about cold spots in the incubator that results in a reduced hatch. Would love to hear your thoughts.t Thanks.
We have roll away nesting boxes... at first they would not lay in them. Definitely not cozy for the chickens.
So we added golf balls and ceramic eggs and used wood shavings to prop them up and not roll away. I think glueing something to the fake eggs to keep them from rolling would be wise...
Hello! Wow, what an amazing assortment of birds. I would love to know where you got the Bielefelders from as they are on my wish list. If you have the contact info for the breeder that would be amazing. Thanks
Thank you Aart!
We are in zone 4, think middle of nowhere Northern Wisconsin. longish cold winters. Great counsel. I had planned to give away all the roosters and had only purchased one dozen fertilized eggs but were gifted the other... but once those little fuzzballs come out of the...
Hello! I am brand new to chicken keeping but have looked forward to this for the last 5 years. We have 10 layers (just started laying in October) and 15 teenagers (easter egger barnyard mix with some copper maran in the mix). I have been enjoying the chats and so thankful for the wealth of...
We are very new to raising chickens and hatched are first eggs in August. Our chicks are just about 12 weeks old. We have 15 birds, 5 roosters and 10 chickens from what we can figure out (we are not sure about one of the black ones so maybe 11 to 4). 4 days ago discovered one of the...
