Welcome to our backyard farm!
We live in a suburban NW Oregon neighborhood, and we are starting our 'farm' this year.
By 'farm', I mean 3 raised garden beds, and new chicken coop, with a flock of 5 pullets.
This is the first step of the coop building project.
Step 1:
We started with a pallet...

It wasn't SUPER hot, normal Oregon summer, I was worried about it, but asked the knowledgeable chicken-lovers here on BYC, they said 'go for it!'
I read you can test for freshness by putting the egg in a bowl of water, if it sinks to the bottom, it's fresh, if it bobs but doesn't float...

I have been getting eggs from our flock of 5 for 2 weeks, I thought our EE was only laying every 3 or 4 days, till I found her stash behind some bales of hay.....6 in total! So the EE HAS been laying every day, and the 6 I found had been there 1-6 days, they are just fine, I checked...
Okay, so I didn't have any fake eggs, so I just put a store baught white egg in the nest boxes, sure enough, i checked an hour later, and there was a lovely little brown egg next to the one I planted! YAY!
Thanks for your insight = )
I will definitely try the fake eggs......that silly EE is DETERMINED to burrow behind those hay bales! I know she needs to lay, and if I let her out of the run, she dives for the hay! I will keep them all in the coop for a while, maybe she will give in.
Thanks again...
Hi All,
So early last week, my husband was mowing the lawn, and he found an egg under the magnolia tree...WOO HOO! Our first egg!!! 4 days later, I found one next to the nest boxes, then 2 days after that, I watched our EE lay one in the yard. Very cool! (my 3 yr old daughter got to see it...
FARM TOWN on face book!!!!!!
Holy cow is it EVER addictive!!!
Have you ever played 'Harvest Moon'/ It's kinda like that....so cute and fun
Really, if you don't want to spend ALL DAY & NIGHT on line....stay away from Farm Town!!!
We finaly got around to painting the coop, and I was sitting on a stool inside the run, pulling the chain link away from the wall of the coop so DH could roll behind it, when Tractor, my friendliest little Golden Laced Wyandotte thought it would be a GREAT idea to hop onto my back and claw her...
My chihuahua got into cat food once, it was a fish flavor, and it almost killed her, she vomited & had diarrhea every 15 minutes all night.
I took her to the vet the next morning, and they told me fish was VERY deadly for some dogs.
Any chance your pup ate a bag of cat food?
So sorry, it is SO...
