    Starting my Phoenix quail adventure

Hey there :-) No, I actually bought a cheap system from Lowe's that I'll turn on manually as needed once it's hotter. For now I'm not planning to use a fan but that can change depending on how things go. I did put a gallon freezer bag of frozen water in their enclosure at lunch time today so...

    Starting my Phoenix quail adventure

I picked up 4 quail today from a gentleman on Craigslist. I requested 4 female Coturnix but after driving 30 miles across the city, I got four (three shown) and he couldn’t guarantee they were all female. Ugh. They were what he brought when we met. I decided to take my chances as I had...

    Starting my Phoenix quail adventure

Thanks. I have no shortage of palm fronds so can probably just lay some across the top and even the sides as needed. I could probably do something similar on the inside with a portion of one. I need to finish adding the locks but it's entirely enclosed in 1/2" hardware cloth or plywood...

    Starting my Phoenix quail adventure

Hello :-) Just re-introducing myself. I've posted in the past 10 years about my backyard chickens and later my backyard muscovies in the Seattle area, but my wife and I have relocated to Phoenix in the past two years or so and I've been wanting to get some backyard pets again. I'm thinking...

    Muscovy keepers share your pics!

I have really enjoyed viewing this thread over time, so I thought I'd post a few pics of our muscovy family. Family Portrait: Porter (dad), Lady (mom), and 12 assorted youngin's: Lady: Porter: The Youngin's: Tomorrow, though, Porter and Lady are leaving for a new home. I...

    Muscovy Family Portrait

Chickboss, Just to follow up with my last reply, the photo was actually cropped, and when I went back and looked at the full version, that little tuff of yellow on the explorer's back is actually a little yellow one making the escape with him. LOL. Ya, they gotta stay! -Dave

    Muscovy Family Portrait

Thank you everyone. The pic was on my wife's iPhone, so not the best, but you do what you gotta do. Chickboss, it's funny but I just noticed the same thing, with the one sneaking off. What has been so funny is that my daughter and son have eached picked out one of them and named them for...

    Muscovy Family Portrait

Thanks. The male is finally starting to settle down. He has been somewhat aggressive towards to the ducklings, nipping at them, etc. Over the past few days I have finally allowed them to all co-mingle unsupervised again, so hopefully we are through the mean-daddy phase. As it is, it is so...

    Muscovy Family Portrait

Since my family had to go get our family portrait today, I decided that it would be appropriate to snap a family portrait of our ducks. :-) From left to right, there is Porter (dad), Lady (mom), and 12 fast growing two week old scovies. -Dave

Is it neccessary for ducks to have a pool or pond to um....

Today our Muscovies did it next to the pond.....does that count? -Dave
