Hi thought you might be interested in my young Japanese bantam chicken with her 6 chicks, 4 hens, 2 cockerels and their dad. He has been a protective dad too and is now helping her keep them warm roosting in our polytunnel. She would take them into the hut with the others. So we've let them...

How To Sex A Chicken - Wisdom From An Old Timer

I have two cross breeds, silkie/sebrights, beautiful little birds but with them having the characteristics of both it is difficult to tell. They grew up with a sebright chick who grew into a very obvious comb and he even started to crow, now has a new home with ladies of his own. But the...

    CHICK PICTURES!!

These are 3 that survived out of 4 hatched. One poor wee soul lost use of both legs and had no balance. The two darker ones are silkie/golden sebright mix with cute littles tufts of feathers on head and feathers developing on their feet, the lighter one is the pure bred sebright. Not sure...

Fancychooklady, can you help me. You seem to have loads of knowledge. I am in Scotland and have a 5 wk old sebright chick which has suddenly gone lame. She is holding her left leg up and drags it on the floor, I was reading the above posts and think it could be the same as these other...

Thanks for that Overrun, but now unfortunately one has a lame leg, dragging on the ground but hopping around and seems not in pain. Any advice would be apreciated but we are off to the vet today, hate the fact that she could be in pain.

5 week old silkie / sebright cross with leg dragging and hopping on other.

Hi there I have a little 5 week old chick who has suddenly starting hopping around on one leg whilst dragging the other. On investigation there seems nothing else wrong, and it didn't seem broken. She holds it like a fist with the toes all curled up in both directions. She didn't seem to be...

    separating mom from her chicks

Hello I have a slightly different problem. Our hen has hatched 4 eggs and we have 4 lovely chicks that are now nearly 5 weeks old. When the weather got better we let them out with their mum into the rest of the flock during the day and back into their own run and hutch at night. Last night...

    sebright thread

Thought I would show you what we have. 4 out of 7 eggs hatched. We were not sure what we had but now it seems we have a mix. They all seem to have sebright colouring, one lighter. But two seem to have feathery legs, so have a bit of the silkie in them. And the light one I think might have...

    Hi from Scotland

Hello everyone, I am in Newtonmore in the Highlands of Scotland. Saw posts from someone from the Isle of Skye and Bo'ness. I used to live in Grangemouth but we moved up here to start a B&B and now have a small house but with various animals. Would love some Poland bantams if anyone rears...

    Baby Chick Pictures!!!!! POST!

Our lovely silkie bantam Gonzo has managed to raise 4 out of 7 eggs. 3 look like silkies (Silkie mum x Sebright dad) but the other definitely is different and is probably a Sebright. Really looking forward to them growing up and finding out what they are going to turn out to be. Can...
