if you decide to use artificial lighting it should turn on in the MORNING before the sun rises rather than at night when its time to roost. with it being turned on at night it could cause issues with roosting etc. i've always read to have it turn on early like 2 hours before sunrise
so i guess (since i can't have roosters in the city) i am lucky he is waiting until he is older hahaha.....he isn't mating either. no he is our only rooster
my silkie hatched out eggs in June. I have never had a rooster but out of three eggs one is rooster. They are now 20 1/2 weeks old and i'm wondering when i'll begin to hear him crow? i know all chickens are different but what is the average age a roo will crow? he is an easter egger
here is what my roo looked like when he had cocci....fluffed up, head tucked in tail down and very sleepy acting. not eating or drinking and very light to lift. plus very runny poop, foamy looking and a few days later blood in it. corid in their water helped soooo much!!!
mine all tried laying in the same next with my broody. i just made sure i marked with like a pencil an X on the ones i wanted her to hatch and then daily took the other chickens eggs away and brought them inside
mine wag their tail for no reason lol...usually its like when they flap their wings to stretch them out. just weird stuff chickens do that really has no meaning :)
molting and the shortness of day will do this. even if their new feathers are fully in they still could be finishing up. give it some time...they'll start back up in no time. winter months are rough, hang in there
