    Can we see everyone's Waterfowl

That's the whole flock - all Anconas, hanging out by their pond. They like digging for bugs under the logs. Misha is the best at posing for the camera. Duck bums!! ;) Ours are for eggs and are more like pets. (4 females, 1 male in case we decide to try raising more.) We were going to...

    Food 'no nos' for Ducks

My Anconas are fruit lovers. Cantaloupe especially. They loved fresh strawberries when they were in season. They liked pears at first but now are over them it seems. They love clover, we have a pig patch in the yard and I gather up leaves and flowers whenever we mow.

Do ducks need crushed oyster shells like chickens?

How old are your ancona girls? My older girls are just over 3 months, we also have a boy who is 3 months and two younger girls. We are definitely seeing mating behavior in the older trio. How much longer until we should look for eggs? When did you start providing the oyster shell? :)

Introducing New Ducks - A comic chase scene

That makes sense! Mom watches out for her girl, girl picks up the leader attitude from mom. So far, day three, it seems Sonya is still the leader. I think my other girl, Sasha, is going to end up lower than second in the pecking order eventually. It's a little hard to tell since they spend...

Introducing New Ducks - A comic chase scene

Day two - everyone is acting like they've always been together. The new girls are delighted with the pond. They all forged together, snuggled together for a nap, swam together, and got treats together. Anconas really have amazingly sweet dispositions.

Introducing New Ducks - A comic chase scene

Yup - I've checked on them twice. All snuggled down, not a feather out of place. I'm shocked. And delighted.

Need to rehome at least 1 male ancona duck - Michigan

I'll let you know. :) None of ours were laying yet. The older ones are about 12 weeks old, the new ones are about 6 weeks. So we've probably still got a little bit to go. The older ones are displaying some mating behaviors. Should we be introducing oyster shell into their food soon? I've read...

Introducing New Ducks - A comic chase scene

Today was a busy day! My husband and I had the problem of too many drakes (3) to ducks (2). We rehomed two of our boys today, thank goodness, and were extremely fortunate to find someone selling 2 female anconas as well! We dropped the boys off at their new home (it was hard to leave them...)...

    Ducks On The Moon

"The ducks will eat them." Love it! When we made our run area, we figured any plants left in there were fair game for the ducks. Our anconas have destroyed the hostas, nibbled at the trees, dug holes in various places... they love it back there. We move their water canteen every day or two so...

Need to rehome at least 1 male ancona duck - Michigan

Quote: After reading your post I convinced my husband to give Craigslist a try. And it worked out better than we could have hoped! Thank you so much. We found a new home for two of the boys. A nice couple with lots of different poultry took them in. They had ducks, quail, geese, chickens... a...

Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

We ended up finding them a home, thank goodness! Two boys were relocated, and we found someone selling two girls. So we did a crazy run around today and got all of that sorted out. Thank you for the offer though!

Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Hi! I have 2 drake ancona ducks that need rehoming... we ended up with 3 drakes and 2 hens. Looking to possibly trade for a female duck. But if not, finding our extra boys a home would be nice. We raised them from chicks and are very attached, prefer not to have them end up as dinner. We're in...

Need to rehome at least 1 male ancona duck - Michigan

Hello everyone, If this is not the right place for this post, please let me know and I will move it. I'm still getting the feel for the layout of these forums. :) My husband and I got five ancona ducklings in May. We raised them in our house (they loved the bathtub), moved them outside to a...
