I have 5 white chickens.
One is my cockerel Scott. He came from a White Leghorn Hen and a Crested Cream Legbar Cockerel.
I also have a white hen, Sonoma, who was his sister from the same hatch with same parentage.
I have two purebred White Leghorns.
and just recently Scott fathered a hatch...
Lillibet, Eggbet and Danita are 16 weeks old today! Expecting eggs in a few weeks ladies! 🥚🍳🐔🐣🐤🐥
I'm still hoping Eggbet is a girl (barred one). She is still smaller and underdeveloped but fingers crossed any male traits would have shown by now.
There's a good chance No. 1 is a pullet, I'd have expected much more wattle growth on a leghorn X male.
Here's my chick at 7 weeks and 10 weeks, mother was a white Leghorn and father a Crested Cream Legbar
Hes now a 15 month old cockerel and a father of 6 new chicks!
Haha me too! Hes my only cockerel so i know for sure he is. He is a hybrid himself and will carry the barring gene from his Crested Cream Legbar dad. His mum was a White Leghorn and he certainly got the looks from her side.
For those that have helped identify the gender of my 6 chicks over the last few weeks. I'm pretty sure now that there is 3 pullets and 3 boys.
Hatched 12 weeks ago this weekend and (said in the style of Friends "Chandlers a girl") Eggbets a girl, Eggbets a girl......(I think 😂)
Eggbet had a...
Hi
For those that have seen my threads on these 6 wee chicks, here they are at 10 weeks old and quite a few changes since my last thread, though mainly only the ones I know are boys are the ones that have changed with some differences in feather colours and visual differences on the head and...
Yeah - I almost gave up at one point and thought that I was battling a lost cause.
We treated it in the house twice and put straight back out with the brood every time. I think it was being back with Mum and the flock that had the most benefit.
Fighting fit now and a normal chicken, just a...
Thanks. I'm really glad to hear that about Eggbert. Bonded with that wee chick when we had step in a couple of times and rescue it! We splinted it's toes at a day old and had to give lots of TLC at about 5 days old when it got its head stuck in the fence for a full day!
9 weeks old now, photo from today. Hoping these are my 3 girls (Eggbert, #1 and #3)
One of the barred cockerels has started to grow brown feathers all around the head, getting more certain #4 is also male now but not 100% sure yet.
@Rhodebar Lover Thanks so much. I didnt know to consider shoulder feathers!
May help in seeing how Eggbert develops in comparison to the other 3 barred ones if they are all boys.
They all have a few bluey/green feathers coming through. I assume from their Rhode Rock mums that you can see in...
@JedJackson @Rhodebar Lover Thank you for your thoughts!
Number 4 is a strange one for sure. It certainly doesn't appear cockerel like in its behaviour but that comb and wattles screams cockerel I know. I think it will have me wondering for a while, especially when comparing to the colour of...
Thanks so much for your thoughts. I will feel very lucky if 4 out of the 6 are girls!
They are almost 9 weeks old now and there is no sign of saddle feathers yet, not even on the boys (from what I can see with my limited knowledge!).
I will share more photos in a week or two when they will be...
We're now at 8 week old and still hoping 1 and 3 are girls.
Eggbert and 4 have me scratching my head, some huge comb and wattles on 4, but not as big nor red as boys 2 and 5 and even more obvious in the side by side photo. Eggbert still small, just sprouting a comb and looks a touch red...
