    Non-commerical Feed

I have calls and emails in to the Ag Dept of the University. Thanks Mary for the encouragement!

    Non-commerical Feed

I live in Hawaii, so sunlight hours don't vary a lot in the winter months. My hens range in age from 4 months to 3 years. December 2016 we got 1400 eggs, December 2017 we got 1250. No illnesses ever, had dry pox last year, small amount. We've got only a handful molting this year. They also...

    Non-commerical Feed

Hi guys, need some input here. We are in the process of moving away from commercial feed for our 200+ chicken flock. They are getting as much papaya as they want (we have a source for truckloads for just $10!). We also are getting a large amount of kitchen scraps from an organic retreat...

    Jumped in both feet!

I know it's not large enough. Right now, I'm wanting them to re-acclimate and get to know where home is. Our plan is to increase their "free-ranging" space a little at a time. We have a full acre that will be shared with our chickens, but I don't want them having access to it all as I don't...

    Jumped in both feet!

I have a fairly large flock of chickens, around 250 and growing. I have been getting a lot of requests from my customers for duck eggs and/or salted eggs. An opportunity arose and I got 100+ ducks of various breeds, but mostly Khaki Campbell and Pekin. We picked them up today and the poor...

    Tree Roosting Ladies

Aloha neighbor! I've got a largish flock, 250 or so, and many of mine roost up in our trees as well. I feel lucky that we have no predators so my flock can truly free-range the property.

    Type of Rooster?

Thanks, we think so. He's very proud of himself too!

Noob mistake with the Brooder Light

Hey! It's your neighbor down the street. (Sorry out of touch lately, sick chickens and humans but all sorted out now). I use a heating pad cave on high the first couple of nights, then drop it down to low a couple of nights and then off. Works great!

    Type of Rooster?

I was afraid of that. Guess he'll just get to hang with the main flock. Unfortunately he's about 4th or 5th in line, but he's a great tid-bitter for all the chicks running around and a lot of the brooding hens stay close to him.

    Type of Rooster?

I have Buff Orpington hens, do you know if there is a chance of Lavendar if I breed them? Or will they all be split and be dark?

    Great, thank you so much!

    Type of Rooster?

Got as a Rescue, he's gorgeous, but I have no clue what breed he is. Coloring is varied shades of grey. Thanks! Juli

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Grrr...only 32 out of what should be around 60 layers. I've started the process of confining to see who is laying and who isn't. I'm in Hawaii so no slow down for cooler, shorter days. Thinking I've got some rescued hens who are closer to 3 or 4 years old as oppossed to the 2 years old I...

More table scraps = fewer eggs ?

I know mine too. I have around 200 chickens (lost count after last broody hatches, at least 19 for two of them!) and a duck. I absolutely know who is the queen bee. I also know the ranking of my 5 main roosters and the 10 or so junior roosters (some of which will be heading to freezer camp...

    What breeds are these?

ok, so probably not be using them in breeding groups. Sorry new guys, might be camp time, I have too many roosters!
