    Coop introduction in wet weather

Got to check on them myself this AM, and its not wheezing, they all seem to be breathing pretty normally. I think a couple are starting their voice change... not something I ever considered with chickens before! They were just vocalizing while negotiating roosting rights, even tho they haven't...

    Coop introduction in wet weather

One was a little lethargic the first night, but that was when we went out after sunset and put her in the coop since she was trying to sleep on the ground. The do love the more space, but going from 15 sq ft and very dry to 90 with actual weather and complete dark would be a change for me too...

    Coop introduction in wet weather

We had our 6 RIR chicks in our garage until 7 1.2 weeks. They are full feathered and the brooder was way too small. We moved them into the run/coop and have been making sure they get back into the coop at night. The day after we moved them in it went from 80* and sunny to 54* and rainy and will...

post your chicken coop pictures here!

After several changes in vision, budget cuts, and project expansions, we finally have a functional product with occupants! It's 6x12 with 4x6 elevated coop 3' off the ground.

They finally figured out how to get into/out of coop on their own!

We just moved our 7 1/2 week old chicks from their 5x3 brooder box into a 6x12 run with 6x4 elevated coop. I didn't put a door on the coop, and the first day 2 of them walked down into run and back up, then later in the day one got down but apparently didn't figure out how to get back up, so we...

TSC Chick Days are almost here! I'm really hoping for some barred rocks. Have a way-nicer-than-needed little 3x5 brooder cage almost set up.

    The Wyandotte Thread

There have been 3 so far. 2 were two days apart, but thended they were back to back. Have seen a single hen lay 2 days in a row, so I'm guessing 2 of them laid turkey eggs. We gave them a watermelon over several days, maybe that is the secret ingredient!

    The Wyandotte Thread

What is normal for wyandotte eggs size wise? 1/2 our eggs just jumped from 2" long and 5" around to 2.5" long and 5.5" around... a very large difference. They were a medium sized egg, now it looks like super jumbo. Is that normal or are we getting unusually large eggs? They have been laying for...

    Dreamed my chickens laid eggs

And of course I say that and Echo/Pinky marches into the nest, squats for an hour, and lays her first egg. First two-egg day!

    Dreamed my chickens laid eggs

Yeah, that was my implication, one is just a week or two behind the others in maturing. She has been in the next 2 or 3 times today, both nests, so she has to be almost ready. What I did with the camera was take a 5-7 year old laptop that was functional, but not good for much modern stuff and...

    Dreamed my chickens laid eggs

My GLW seem to be spending 40 min to an hour per lay in their first week. We have had one egg a day for 5 days for a total of 5 eggs from 4 hens. I suspect the boss hen (Blue or Wobbles depending on if you use my names or my wife's :) ) has laid two, as has the number 2 hen Charlie/Flappy. I...

post your chicken coop pictures here!

I just figured out how to make a remotely accessible web cam for my coop using an old free laptop and an old webcam I had lying around. I'm am officially needing up my coop.

Looks like they should be fine. Nothing in there should be dangerous even if it soaked through the shell at all.
