I have a flock of chickens and the majority of them are 3 years old this spring. We have white leghorn hens and 3 of them are looking scraggly. missing feathers, look thin. They're still energetic and run to people when they see us (guilty of giving them a lot of treats ) they're eating and...
I tried to move my broody from her nest this summer she wasn't having it. She use to be so sweet but I tried to move her and she bit me repeatedly. Now I only move my broody hens at night.
I have a question for you more experienced chicken owners. I had a hen go broody. She quietly sat and hatched 5 eggs. She hung out with them for 2 1/2 weeks and as of Saturday shes back on a new clutch of eggs. Is it normal for them to be broody that soon again?
I just had my first broody hen. She's an austrolaup (sp?) from a hatchery. She's 2 and she just hatched out 5 babies. They're really cute. I'm so excited. I'll have to take some pics
I hatched 2 out of 39. But we have some fertility issues. We threw out 19 on day 7 that were clear and I can't actually candle my darker eggs, but turns out most of them weren't fertile either. Out of 39 I had 12 that were definately fertile. My husband thinks getting the auto turner will help...
How long do you leave them in the incubator after they hatch? I had one hatch (finally) around 2 this morning but he's still pretty damp (looking) should I leave him a while longer? So far I only have one hatch, but I have a second pip
There was a couple times throughout these 3 weeks when my temp dipped down a 2-3 degrees. Im really happy to hear peeping. And you're right being side tracked was a huge help. Admittedly I spent most of Friday and Saturday standing over my incubator
I was calling this hatch a scratch. 21 days was at noon yesterday. No movement. No pips no noise. Figured I'd give them a couple days and then scratch it
Got home from Easter with my family and I can hear peeping from the incubator. I only see one pip but it sure is a vocal little chick...
No pips or movement from my eggs but it's only day 19. I have to work tomorrow so will be gone from 230pm-130am. Hopefully they don't hatch while I'm away
Dumb question. I have an egg that is leaking goo and my incubator smells really bad when I open it. I couldn't candle that egg cuz it was too dark. Do I take it out and throw it? This is my first hatch.
