About the size and general concept - We built one similar last April, and by similar I mean that it's about the same size, has a shed roof, 1/4 enclosed for the hen house, lots of ventilation etc. I attached some pictures of when it was being built - where the ladder is, there is a wooden door...
In addition to lots of the things that have already been mentioned, mine LOVE weeds from the yard (we are organic and 100% no pesticide). They get so excited when they see me coming with them :)
Also to help them beat the heat in summer, I freeze the vegetable & fruit scraps from our own...
Great article on a fun breed! Our two silver laced polish love to hang out together - you can see them in the one pic enjoying watermelon together, and then there's a shot of just one of them from the front in the other pic. They are so funny, we love them. Can anyone tell if they are...
Unfortunately she passed. Just kept fading. It sounds like yours has turned the corner though. That's really positive!
One thing I've learned since then in case it helps you - Since that chick died, I had another who started to remove herself fron the pack, got quieter, more sleepy. etc, and...
I'm so excited that Gracie appears to be a D'uccle. They are adorable. I had no idea they could be white!
This is the best pic I have of the bottom of the black chicks' feet... kind of pinkish I would say
#4 Gracie I got from a local feed store. The others from a reputable local breeder who sold them to me as Ameracaunas but I see so often on this site that what people buy thinking they are Ameracaunas are suspected to really be EEs... So I'm curious what you guys think :).
I would love your opinions on the sex of my 5 chicks, and also what breeds
Chick #2 Flower is a MONSTER (her legs are so thick!) compared to the others her age (except my golden sexlink chick who is not pictured) and is definitely outgoing.
#3 Diana is tiny compared to her same age chicks...
5 week old chick just constantly drips from her rear end. She pastes up, I bathe her and gently remove the build up, and she pastes up again. No blood that I've seen.
The 6 other chicks in the broader have no issue. I no longer use the heat since it's about 80 degrees in the garage...
We have 7 chicks aged 3-4 weeks and 2 weeks ago we felt the same, that they seemed bored... so to stave off any mischievous thoughts, to our brooder we started adding 'toys' and we now have (all found in the yard or around the house, no purchases): roosting bars at 2 different heights, a...
Hi everyone,
Our first batch of 7 little chicks are growing strong on week #3, and DH started on the coop this weekend. Please see pic of DH and our son at the "construction site"... we have really really sandy soil (like the beach but in the Texas country lol). He's leveled cinder blocks and...
