This is the second hatch this year and the second time this has happened. The eggs are developing, about 1/4 of them pip and only 4-5% of them hatch. I broke them open when I gave up at day 32 and about 90% of them are fully developed, most were dead. A few were still alive?!?! Temps have...

    Silkies can't or won't roost?

I have lots of experience with chickens but only production breeds. I have never had “decorative breeds” before so I know nothing about these SIlkies I bought. They have me confused. I put them in a dog crate to keep them isolated for awhile. At the back of the crate I put a roost about 22”...

What is the best breed to start out with?

Thank you for the suggestions. I have to add, I live in Kentucky and any of the "wild" strains are illegal to raise here. There are also strict regulations about keeping them contained. So I need a bird that is less flighty.

    Midget White Turkeys

Quote: The Beltsville Small White was bred in the late 1930's, the Midget not until the 50's. The idea on both was a smaller production type turkey. One of the things they were going for was a uniform size for ease of processing. 2buckskins - you have it backwards, the BSW is more like a...
