I would suggest that your most important thing would be the thermometer on the floor under the bulb--changed to the opposite end next, to see what the temp is there.
I had a friend new to chicks, who put them in the bathroom in a tote of some sort. I told her she needed a heat bulb over them...
Will probably go, but not sure what day, and have no poultry to sell this year, and also don't want to buy any--need to get rid of what I have--age creeping up on me so I don't need them to care for. Love to look around, tho. I have never figured out how to find others who are there and on...
I would love to go again this spring. Can't go to the summer one, as I can't take much heat. Bought 3 young hens last fall, and I didn't think there was as many chickens as usual, but we didn't get thru much of it, really, as I have some problems with my knee this year. (Don't get old. LOL)...
Hubby & I are going tomorrow. We don't know a Silkie from a Serama, but I love to see the different pretty chickens, and he humors me and suffers along. LOL
Thanks, folks. Starting as soon as I get 2 more eggs, to make a dozen. My 6 Silkie girls are old and sorta slow on the laying. I have a Spitzhauen rooster, and I am not sure he knows the Silkie girls are chickens. LOL We will see when I candle in a week or so.
I haven't hatched for a couple years, and am heating up my incubator to try hatching a dozen Silkie eggs. I remember the temp, but can't remember what humidity is suggested as best, and have apparently lost my book on the bator. Can anyone bring me up to speed on humidity? Thanks. (Used...

it's cheaper to warm up a reptile with a light bulb than anything else... so petshops will still have reptile light bulbs... and since companies aren't going to want to stop making bulbs, they're going to be cheaper and more accessible for us reptile peeps...
or maybe everyone should...
I don't know--standard chicks are pretty big at 4 or 6 weeks. I would be more inclined to make it 4 X 6 by 2, I believe. You could put something in the middle, to keep them in one end while they are tiny,so they will stay near the heat source. Heat bulb, I assume. Or 60 or 100 watt is...
Well, I can't remember and can't find a name or e-mail addy where Igot the eggs I hatched the roo from. I got eggs on here, from someone in ILL I think, or IA. Got from both states, but nothing hatched from one group, and hatched 6--4 pullets and 2 roos, from the other batch. I let the...
Steve--I've never shipped, and don't think I would know how to wrap safely. Unless you want to send instructions I could follow--might consider it if I knew how, and thought I could do it. ??
I have been fooling with this, and I think I got some pics of my Seramas uploaded. The pics aren't very good--they wouldn't pose, the wind was blowing, and they were scared of my camera, but here they are. I weighed one of my little hens the other day, and she weighed about 14oz...
I have 4 little Serama hens laying now-1 to 3 eggs a day. Would sell a dozen in a day or 2, when they finish up laying this dozen, if anyone is interested. But I'm not into shipping yet, so only ifsomeone can pickup. I'm 30 miles N. of Springfrield. Thanks.
