BROODER thread! Post pics of your brooders!

I would suggest that your most important thing would be the thermometer on the floor under the bulb--changed to the opposite end next, to see what the temp is there. I had a friend new to chicks, who put them in the bathroom in a tote of some sort. I told her she needed a heat bulb over them...

    Jacob's Cave swapmeet Mo.

Will probably go, but not sure what day, and have no poultry to sell this year, and also don't want to buy any--need to get rid of what I have--age creeping up on me so I don't need them to care for. Love to look around, tho. I have never figured out how to find others who are there and on...

    Jacob's Cave swapmeet Mo.

I would love to go again this spring. Can't go to the summer one, as I can't take much heat. Bought 3 young hens last fall, and I didn't think there was as many chickens as usual, but we didn't get thru much of it, really, as I have some problems with my knee this year. (Don't get old. LOL)...

    incubator

Thanks, folks. Starting as soon as I get 2 more eggs, to make a dozen. My 6 Silkie girls are old and sorta slow on the laying. I have a Spitzhauen rooster, and I am not sure he knows the Silkie girls are chickens. LOL We will see when I candle in a week or so.

    incubator

I haven't hatched for a couple years, and am heating up my incubator to try hatching a dozen Silkie eggs. I remember the temp, but can't remember what humidity is suggested as best, and have apparently lost my book on the bator. Can anyone bring me up to speed on humidity? Thanks. (Used...

BROODER thread! Post pics of your brooders!

Quote: it's cheaper to warm up a reptile with a light bulb than anything else... so petshops will still have reptile light bulbs... and since companies aren't going to want to stop making bulbs, they're going to be cheaper and more accessible for us reptile peeps... or maybe everyone should...

BROODER thread! Post pics of your brooders!

I don't know--standard chicks are pretty big at 4 or 6 weeks. I would be more inclined to make it 4 X 6 by 2, I believe. You could put something in the middle, to keep them in one end while they are tiny,so they will stay near the heat source. Heat bulb, I assume. Or 60 or 100 watt is...

Serama Eggs for sale--SW MO--pickup only

I have been fooling with this, and I think I got some pics of my Seramas uploaded. The pics aren't very good--they wouldn't pose, the wind was blowing, and they were scared of my camera, but here they are. I weighed one of my little hens the other day, and she weighed about 14oz...

Hatch eggs in an egg carton??????

If you have the Little Giant 9200, or similiar size starfoam incubator or hatcher, I noticed that a quart jar lid (from Mayo, mustard, or whatever) jar, just fits in the bottom under the screen, along the edge, so I have 8 lids under the wire--4 along the top and 4 along the bottom. Just be sure...

Hatch eggs in an egg carton??????

Quote: In my opinion, propping the bator up on a book isn't enough of a "turn" to do much/any good. As far as the eggs laying horizontally since 6 p.m.--did you just put them in the bator, or are you talking about the last 3 days before the hatch? I thought it sounded like you are...

What kind of nests for Seramas??

I have 4 little Serama hens, and tho I have tried a couple kinds of small, simple nests, they insist on laying randomly around the floor in the shavings, or occasionally outside in their pen on the grass. What do you use, or does anyone have any success with nests for them?

Looks Like A Seagull.... MYSTERY PULLET

If she has a little crest on her head (can't tell in the pic if she does or not) but if so, I think she is a Spitzhauben. Looks very like my Spitz I hatch, except they do have a small crest--gets bigger as they grow. She's pretty. Do you have another recent pic of her?
