Hi all, hoping to get some advice for creating a quick coop/run in Eastern TN, if needed. We are moving from CA and TN and I am exploring the option of re-homing my three Black Australorps or maybe taking them with us. We will be at the house for 10 days this month to try to get things ready...
Hi all, my three young ladies (will be 1 yr old in April) has decided the days are too short for laying now. They were giving us at least an egg a day until about a month ago.
I was feeding them layer pellets and now its time to buy new feed, but I'm wondering if I should keep them on layer or...
So far mine is holding up well. I added a door on the other side and fenced off a corner of the yard so they can have a little room to roam during the day when I'm home & can keep an ear out for them.
Cute tractor!!
Bummer about the warping... our summers are dry but our winters can be really wet, so I'll have to keep an eye on it this first year... hopefully it gets me through to next spring.
I saw a couple of pictures on here of people hanging ears of corn & apples from a rope as a treat, to give their chickens something fun to do & peck at, so I decided to try it. I used a screwdriver and threaded a piece of rope through a half head of cabbage and hung it about eye height to my...
I just started raising chickens this year and have 3 standard hens in my smallish coop/run (about 9 sq feet of coop & 27 sq ft of run). Because I'm a little shy of the 'ideal' sq ft per bird recommendations, and in town with somewhat close neighbors, I'm also nervous about the DL method, so use...
This might be a silly question, but here goes! Do you cook it first? Seems like it would be tough for them to get uncooked corn off the cob, while you are holding it...?
I ordered them on Ebay from a supplier in China (I didn't realize this when I ordered). But they aren't all that powerful. The fans are like large desk fans that would plug into a computer's USB port, and the solar panels are like the ones you'd use to charge a cell phone. And they were...
Finished my run extension! Added about 8 square feet to the run, bringing me to about 27 square feet of run space for my 3 girls. I'll have to go bigger if/when I add more birds in 2-3 years, but hopefully by that time we will be on our dream mini-ranch and I can go BIG!
For the extension I...
I use sand that we had in old sand bags during the risk of flooding last winter... I'm guessing its construction sand. And I'll throw out larger grit once a week after raking the run, gives them larger options. I agree, they seem to find what they need!
I have a small coop & run with only three birds, so I use shavings in the coop, and sand in the run. Scoop the poop in the shavings under the roost every morning, use my dog poop rake to rake the sand into a pile and then sift out poop with kitty litter scoop in the evening while the ladies get...
