    Hawk Attack - Debrief/Discussion/Help

We have foxes, but we are hard fenced in town, it’s unlikely it’d be able to escape and without notice, and no blood or pieces anywhere.. but would you believe 1 hen returned! I have no idea where she was hiding, there’s nowhere else for any to hide. I’ve seen a chicken hawk take a hen before...

    Hawk Attack - Debrief/Discussion/Help

I just lost 6 beautiful hens to what I’m guessing is a chicken hawk, as one tried to get my bird through the mesh the other day. Only 2 little tufts of under feathers seen. Only One hen was tucked up in nesting box when we got home, just can’t believe they took 6 full grown with such minimal...

    Birth defect and/or injury

I’m not sure about the parents, but we lost 4 in shell to different things, I agree maybe a bit too much inbreeding is happening... yes:( it’s already hard decision!

    Birth defect and/or injury

These chicks/eggs are the first lot we’ve got (from a friend) that have had so many issues, it’s 😔 sad, I hope this one will be okay but I think it might have other issues.

    Birth defect and/or injury

Yes I‘m worried about that, it has one little friend who snuggles it, but I can’t seperate at night as I only have one heat lamp and it’s way to cold, thanks for your reply:)

    Birth defect and/or injury

So this chick is 2 days old, I only noticed today that it was missing a toe, but also its all twisted and can’t walk on it properly, which is where I’m not sure if it was born like that or it got an injury somehow.. is there anything I can do to help it? It’s currently getting a bit of a callous...

    🍃August Hatch-a-Long🍃

Our first few barnevelders have hatched😁

Tapping when tapped close to hatch?

It never fluffed up or was looking for food, or cheeped very much, and it still had the clicking when breathing, which I’m not sure if its meant to still have after a day of being hatched

Tapping when tapped close to hatch?

It’s hard to know, and prolly won’t ever fully know, but it kinda looked like a pacific black duck, I asked someone at our pet shop and she agreed it looked like a duck, I was worried that it was one that I’d have to feed, and I went and got something for it besides the honey water I’d been...

Fluid cell or secondary air cell?

Not sure exactly but I think he was a pacific black duck, so sad as he seemed to be doing so well:(

Tapping when tapped close to hatch?

It didn’t make it :( I had to leave it for 4 hours and in that time it passed. Something must’ve been going on that didnt make it compatible with life..

Fluid cell or secondary air cell?

Well poor ducky didn’t make it, the yolk had fully absorbed, but something else mustve been going on, :(

Tapping when tapped close to hatch?

That article was great..... so the mystery egg has hatched, all be it, dramatically and with issues but he’s still going 33 hours later so hopefully will keep pulling through

Fluid cell or secondary air cell?

theres prolly several “I knows and should haves” involved in this pic, but it’s where we stand now... first pic is when I first put it in a cup and second was just now. It’s currently in the incubator and if I get it out to check I pop it under the lamp, I’ve given him a few tiny drops of honey...
