So I'm just trying to figure this kid out - he's AMAZING.
Black skin & tons of toes so he's 1/2 silkie. Head roo is a bantam mottled cochin, but - though this kid was solid black when hatched - he appears to be LACED?! All Buddy's (the mottled cochin) kids have come out solid black with...
So did anyone actually get a MPC Super Chocolate Egg Layer? I hatched a SCEL and a BCM at the same time. One got sick and I had to cull. I thought the SCEL was the remaining chick, but now I'm starting to wonder:
Are SCELs and Black Copper Marans identical or is this really the BCM?
Ok, I just finished my 2nd hatch and I have 3 birchen marans and 3 black copper marans.... and a ton of lookalikes. I have a lady who wants JUST the marans.... how in the world do I figure out which they are?
Hey, last decaders: my egg o meter displays dashes. I set min and max and took out the battery insulator. I took it out and placed it in a different spot... stilllll dashes.... ?
Came across this thread due to questions about my kid. Hatched *first* and will be 4 weeks tomorrow. Still looks like a big chick. Acts the same as siblings - even does the chest bump thing. Has some straggly wing feathers, but that's it. Came from an egg marked "blue laced red wyandotte."
Anyone want to take a go at this kid? Top pic is at 3 weeks. Hatched from an egg marked "Easter Egger" but if that's an EE, I'll eat my hat.
Looks nothing like my other/previous EE babies. Has a giant SPIKEY comb started. Not a pea comb.
I am also a total novice so I could easily be wrong...
My first hatch was abysmal.
Started with 31 eggs, 17 made it to final lock down. 11 ayam cemanis from Cackle and 7 assorted from MPC.
7 of the cemanis hatched but 2 died
6 of the MPC hatched but 2 died
Giving me a grand total of 9 living chicks from 31 eggs (incubator: Farm Innovators 4250)...
Right now they look like lil bitty crows/ravens, but yes 100% black inside and out. The blood is supposed to be blackish, but it's just dark. Probably more like purple (I hope I never find out 😣).
Eggs are ivory though so online when pictures show their eggs are black too... incorrect.
They...
