Agree that the one with most turban/on piggy is female. other looks like a cockerel to me. Love the one I hatched that was a roo…..so social and funny. Very affectionate too. Darn it! Why do the roos have most personality?

actually number 3 looks a bit like a Sebright...shape and edgings.

unfortunately, you are right. the Peppermint did not work other than to make the whole area smell Much better.

I still have the first chicken we hatched from an incubator 10 years ago. Long since stopped laying, but we can go out and pick her up anytime we want! She is such a love. Have had others that died earlier due to egg hardening and breaking inside before they got them out. That is always sad...

Hunting rats.....with a vengeance!

Try essential oil....peppermint. soak cotton balls and place around edges of coop/hen house (or your own house if they have been bold enough to move under it.) Friend swears by it and now I have to try. Will post results.

A friend of mine back East told me that placing Peppermint essential oil soaked cotton balls around the edges will make the rats leave. Going to try it tomorrow.....

Raven is definitely a male. Pretty sure all the rest are female. one of the things to look for is area above beak. If small and smooth probably female. Watch for those pretty streamers on neck though, as also indicator of male. Looking closer at Blu.....may be male....would want to see it...
