Agree that the one with most turban/on piggy is female. other looks like a cockerel to me. Love the one I hatched that was a roo…..so social and funny. Very affectionate too. Darn it! Why do the roos have most personality?
Still have rats. Darn, oil might have lessened the number near the coop, but not stopping them. Found 4 adults living in an old watering bin 2 foot by 4 and 4 foot deep. Has my jasmine growing in it....beautiful plant. I placed hose in it this morning and watched 4 adults scamper for...
My coop is very well ventilated...so that is not a problem.
Also using pet friendly poisons and watching everything like a hawk. Food locked away at night and I replaced all the wire on coop with half inch guage. Dug up several nest and killed all nestlings (rat babies) I found and knocked a...

Will post results.

Raven is definitely a male. Pretty sure all the rest are female. one of the things to look for is area above beak. If small and smooth probably female. Watch for those pretty streamers on neck though, as also indicator of male. Looking closer at Blu.....may be male....would want to see it...
Know I have several large adult rats, some smaller, what I call Kangaroo Rats/mice and multiple juveniles. When they killed my first fledgling silkie, I got mad and started digging in the pen where an old board was.....found 2 nests. Needless to say...all those baby rats are disposed of. Two...
My cats never bother my adult chickens, and I have 3 tiny Old English hens in with my Americanas.(sp?) But they will not hunt the rats. They kill and gift us with mice and Kangaroo rats, but not the full size rats. And I would not trust a Jack Russell with my chickens! Mom has one, great at...
