My broody silkie hatched out her first baby today. There is one more egg. When she saw the baby she had no idea what do with it, but finally got it under her wing. She is in an elevated box in the main coop with her flock. Should I move her inside to a box with a light so when she gets off the...
I have one hen who likes to just chill in the nesting box, even when there are no eggs. Unfortunately, she takes LARGE poops in the box.
Eww. It soils the eggs and how do I get her to stop? (this is a new thing)
Yesterday I went out to see my silkies. One little black hen, Penny, had a vent with a ring of poop around it. Also the feathers by her vent were wet and smoothed back so her usually hidden vent was clearly visible. I cleaned her up and now she seems fine. Can anyone tell me what that was??
I just spoke with a company that carries the vaccine. It is $89.95 a bottle plus the price of syringes. It seems a small price to pay for the heartache this causes. We all seem to have a great deal invested in our chickens so why isn't anyone just vaccinating? I am fairly new to chickens so I am...
Your mare was not what was advertised and sold to you. I would send a registered letter to stallion owner and promise to take them to small claims court to get her papers. A lawyer that specializes in equine law should be able to help you. If you don't go after them they will continue their...
Please don't take this the wrong way but your daughter needs more supervision when handling the babies. That poor chick doesn't need to be handled this way. My daughter would have been in big trouble...Asbergers or not. And at ten years old she should know better.
Sorry but this just isn't funny.
Our chicks from Johan are also very sweet and calm. They come running to us and don't mind being handled. The one larger boy loves to sleep while being held. We are so excited to have them.
Those blue babies are lovely. Thanks for sharing the pictures.
We had a silkie roo like that. Lots of good food and love and he is doing great. Poor little Nan. I would try to give her vitamins and scramble some eggs for her.
Our silkie hen had a mild case and we have been giving her vitamin E and selenium. Her symptoms disappeared in three days. Do we continue treatment or stop sooner. She is alone and not happy inside.
Those two babies are adorable. We didn't pick up ours until they were over a week old. But they were still so cute. Hopefully more will hatch in the next couple of days for you. I think we had a late one...he isn.t getting his shoulder feathers yet. But the others have had them about a week.
I agree Pinkchick. They are so sweet and calm. They are the calmest chicks we have had and we can't wait to watch them grow up. We have 4 RIR hens that are super friendly too so it will be great to have more. My daughter is having so much fun.
I will have to post some pictures on here as they...
Johan's Barnevelders are some of the most beautiful chickens I have ever seen. We picked up six chicks last week at his farm. They are my daughters 4-H project. It will be fun to watch all these lovely babies grow up. My family is from Holland so we thought this breed would be perfect for us.
