Hi all,
I'm doing a scientific study on backyard chicken flocks. The popularity of our chicken flocks has exploded over the last decade and there's not enough good scientific research on the small casual farmers (like the majority of us are), so I'd like to fill in the gaps.
If you can spare 5...
I've got 10 ducks: 5 Rouens, 2 Pekins, 1 Swedish Blue, and 2 Cayugas. We were hoping for a Drake and a Hen, or 2 Hens. But, as both of them are fairly quiet quackers, I had thought that they were both drakes (although it's hard to tell with my Pekin hen making all that noise!). But, I keep...
It's not too late. I wrapped my duck at 8 weeks and he healed up fine.
As for swimming, it depends entirely on how waterproof the material you used to wrap is.
With regards to isolation, it's not necessary, per se, but my other ducks helped the injured one remove the wraps from time to time.

Wrap it now. I wrapped my duck, Keebler, when he was about 6 weeks. He had it in both wings. After about 6 days the wraps came off and he's all healed up. Better safe than sorry. Wrapping doesn't hurt them.
I wasn't sure which category to post this under, so I put it here. I hope that's ok. Moderators/admins, if it belongs in a different thread, please feel free to move it. :)

That last photo is one of my favorites. I took a selfie with him last night, it was pretty funny. I'm not going to be dubbing him. We don't have frostbite in Phoenix and I'm not going to cut him up just to show him. He's a lot older than the other roo (the barred rock is about 3 mos and he's at...
I rescued this Rooster from a residential site that my company manages. If he didn't leave they were going to destroy him and I couldn't bear to see him killed. I'm trying to figure out what he is, but he's tricky. At first I thought he was an Old English Game Fowl, but he has a huge comb and...
Keebler has Angel Wing in both wings. He's managed to slip the wraps twice now. The original photos demonstrate how to wrap one wing, but not two. Does anyone have any tips on how to keep his little wings under wraps?
