    Duck Nests

CJana, thanks, that was my thoughts too...I need my husband home to help me candle them as she just moved right back after snapping the picture.

    Duck Nests

I got her to move and snapped a picture. I dont want to do the flashlight candling until I have help. Do these look rotten? I'm guessing yes...but never seen them before.

    Duck Nests

I'm sure - only problem is I truly think she'll just fly and come right back. I am going to see what I can do after work.

    Duck Nests

Miss Lydia - I honestly don't know if I can get her out - she attacks anybody who walks close to her. I can feed and water her but that's about it. If I can, I'll definitely have to keep something very large in the aisle - as she can easily get in. My chickens destroyed two of my other duck...

    Goat expenses

Like all animals - cost varies. We currently have pygmy and some pygmy crosses. They're out at my Grandmothers. They're kept in a horse barn and are turned out into a pasture that had horse fence originally that was made goat proof (added chicken wire like around it). They get fed goat pellets...

    Fox help

Yes, like others have said, foxes rarely travel alone. They're herd animals so there will be more than one. We are dealing with the same thing currently - they haven't gotten the chickens, but have attacked the ducks. We started with eight and onto five now and one destroyed duck nest. Very...

    Duck Nests

We've had Muscovey ducks over the past couple years and this year one decided to have a nest in the middle of my barn aisle. I just let her be and watched. It's a first time I've ever seen the nest making, egg laying, hen sitting, etc. If I calculated right - she should have hatched out last...

    Soft Egg

She has not laid a soft egg in about a week now. She's not laying them nearly as often as she originally was. Just one every couple days (which, from my readings, is normal). Still planning on having them for Thanksgiving...but until then - I found an egg that I ate and didn't get overly sick...

    Silo chicken coop

I was just browsing and ran across this. We did something similar to ours, too. Right now it's holding our turkey, but it will be converted to chickens next. I got to get shutters for my window I made on the one side as the cold is starting to stay around.

    Soft Egg

The food hasn't made a difference, yet. It's only been a couple feedings. Hoping to find some oyster shells to try and boost it.

    Soft Egg

Although I live in a small town - we're very large into faming. So many people have little back yard farms, or horse farms, or dairy farms, etc. It's our go-to place. Great small town business. The turkey didn't eat very much last night. I gave them a mixture of their other food with it this...

    Soft Egg

I went to the mill and explained it. He mixed me up a layer feed that has calcium in it (along with some other things). I will start feeding it tonight. I will try TSC later this week for a supplement. He also thinks I am going to have a 50+# bird come Thanksgiving time. Oops. Good thing I like...

    Soft Egg

Which I do appreciate, thank you. I'll see what I can find tonight. Here is an (older) picture of my little flocks.

    Soft Egg

I definitely will increase calcium. I am going to see what they have at the mill and TSC. I can make it to the mill tonight, but TSC wont be til later in the week. I'm not neglecting the turkey, just didn't know they were hens.

    Soft Egg

Like I said, we thought we had gobblers (I never seen wild turkey do the things these two do!). We're only growing them for Thanksgiving dinner. Didn't expect to see an egg in their pen! The feed is just what the local mill suggested to feed. I'll make a trip to TSC and see what they have that...
