I hear you.
I've learned patience is the key.. but it does become hard when they aren't cooperating.
I have only two breeds and three are laying and one isnt.. so it isnt breed specific in my case either. I guess some chickens just make you suffer ;)
And as long as she doesnt start looking...
I have been soooo patient with my girls. Three of the four are laying (i have no idea which three) and they have been laying for over a month or so. All the eggs are full sized now and come fairly regularly every day. The last chicken that started laying is still somewhat off schedule and she...
I'm learning that patience is a huge part of this whole chicken and egg thing. Thanks for the advice. We are moving along nicely now.
One of my girls is laying in the nesting box! so at least i know we are okay on the set up.
A second chicken started laying this week and she is trying to...
subscribing as well. Good thread for newbies so we don't freak out if we get a "fart."
I've gotten one egg that was very watery and had a very light yellow yolk.. but it wasn't weird enough to worry me. Figured my newly laying hens were just figuring things out.
I do have a question though...
I am just getting my assumptions corrected as well. I kept going out first thing in the morning to collect eggs and coming back empty handed, but when i get back from work at the end of the day the eggs are there waiting for me.

My daughter and I have 4 chickens.
One of them laid her first egg over last weekend. Here is a picture. Found it on the floor of the coop.. not in the nesting boxes where i expressly told them to lay.
Not sure which of my girls laid it, but i think it might be my largest hen. Every...
thanks. we are going to do a vent check to see if we can feel an egg and go from there.
She was up and moving about a bit and eating too so hopefully no big deal.
Been reading up on the various threads and think I know enough to try and help, if it is indeed a stuck egg.
One of my fathers hens isn't looking so good.
We thought maybe her vent was blocked and went out to the run to try and see what was going on.
There was a lot of green (maybe from vegetable scraps?) poop stuck to her feathers, but we couldn't tell if the vent was actually closed. Anyway what we...

will dust off the 'real' camera and get some shots of my very humble back yard pet and plant 'farm.'
My father is a 'real' farmer so perhaps I will take pictures of his stuff as well to post and take all the credit for.... family business and all :)
I'm a newbie so don't have much input of my own to give you. But I did read this entire thread (its only 8 pages) and there was some good info here. So would suggest you start there in regard to breed info. I've also read that they are called pioneers some times.. so you might be able to find...
