    Best Slaughtering Techniques?

I know where you are, I grew up in Mansfield, Ohio. When you said Amish and Ohio I figured you had to be close to where I grew up.

    Nipple Waterer Help

I ditched my watering nipples for cups. They seemed waste more water and the coop was wet. So the cups keep the coop dry and the water level up.

Hen and chicks to main population

10-4. "Littlest" is acting like she is antsy to get out of there. Of course she might be trying to get away from the chicks...you know there she goes there they go.

Hen and chicks to main population

"Littlest Red" is very close to the top of the pecking order if not the top. Free range depends on my day. If I am going to be around they will be turned out, if not they stay in the coop and run. We have 1 rooster, 6 mature hens, and 8 juveniles that just started laying. I have a mixed flock...

Hen and chicks to main population

One of our hens hatched 4 chicks. I have built them an enclosure inside the coop to keep them all together even when she was sitting on them. How long should they be kept separated inside the coop. Momma is still taking care of them. They are only 1 week old. They have there own food and water...

    Moving a setting hen?

I have a hen that has been sitting since early May. Our first chick hatch out so I made her a little box down low and moved the other 5 eggs and the chick. The hen was growling at me and the hen jumped down and sat on her eggs and tucked her chick under her wing. Seemed a little to easy. I did...

If you have a local sawmill often times you can get pine shavings from them for next to nothing.

What do you feed meat Broilers?

I use G&M Milling out of Statesville, NC. They are local to me so it makes it easy. They have several types of all natural feeds.

    Practice beheading chickens.

My grandma used to step on the head and break the neck. Mom and my aunt say she could dress one out in 12 mins. I prefer a hatchet and Oak log. First time I was nervous but swing was spot on removing the head.

She flattens herself to the ground when I go to pet her

I have a chicken "Littlest Red" she goes down in the mating position when I come up to her. She also knows that I will pick her up and carry her around a little bit and possibly a treat.
