    Wet chick after 7 hours

I stayed up worrying about him and reading (again) all I could and in the end I left him in the incubator and went to bed at 3 am because even though he didn’t look so great he was acting fine. He finally fluffed up mid morning today. He’s now under the brooder and looks completely healthy and...

    Wet chick after 7 hours

First time hatching chicks in incubator. First one hatched about seven hours ago and still looks like this. He’s very active, pecking at things occasionally and chirps loudly enough that I can hear him from upstairs but -how wet is too wet? Initially thought he just looked silky/oily but when he...

    Brand new chick basics

Hi all-we let a bantam sit on eggs and one just now hatched-it’s been a couple years since we’ve had babies and now I’m wondering-Do I need to take chick out immediately and give it water? Should I leave it alone for a few hours? It’s warm and active sitting under mom. It’s in nesting box about...

    Docked beaks

Thank you. Good to know and that explains a lot. I did not know it was done early on and am glad to know I shouldn’t have to worry about future issues. Also-we love your profile picture of chick in a top hat 🙂

    Docked beaks

Hi all, I always find so much helpful info on here from everyone so I’m reaching out. I just bought 6 layers and when I got them home saw that their beaks have been docked (not sure what it’s actually called). Most are barely noticeable but a couple make me sick to look at. I have never seen...
