Totally agree with the OP, they are not toys, and should be treated with respect, as they are living animals. Teach you kids how to carry/pick them up properly, and not man handle them, or chase them around the yard. So sad to see mommies gushing about how their kids love their chicks and...
Found a picture of my EE hen. His dad is Blue Wheaten, had the same discussion on the Wheaten Marans thread with Snowbird. Well, I see where he got his yellow color!
Blue Wheaten Marans, 100% sure he is blue wheaten. I was curious where the yellow feathering was coming from, it has dark brown in it center.
eta, thanks for your prompt reply!!!
Not much activity here anymore, but I am hoping one of the Genetic Guru's can tell me what this guy is color wise? His dad was a Blue Wheaten, and hen was either a Gold Laced Barnevelder, EE, or Black Copper cross.
There are a few that breed LP lines, Heaven Sent Ranch and I think Brian Parks (Frasier Creek farm) keeps a LP breeding pen. You can also join Brenda FB page, she will have a few auctions throughout the breeding season. Cheers!!
Cool thread! My Bantam Cochin's names all start the a T. The hens are Tulip, Tiffany, Tiara, Tara, and Trinity. Roosters are Tobias, Tango, Tucson, Tsunami, Teddy, Tofu, Trump and Togo.
Several hatcheries offer MT Java's, I think Sand Hill offers mottleds. If I recall correctly the Auburn color came out of a flock of blacks that Garfield Farms acquired. They are very pretty, and not as common as the mottled.
Been awhile since I have been on here, glad to see folks are still interested in the Java's!! I am looking to start a breeding pen of whites. Does anyone know of someone breeding these I could buy hatching eggs from? TIA
