Well again... You'd have to pick through the tail. I've got a young pullet (of a different breed) and her tail curves a bit but she's only about a month old. They curl but when I check the feathers, they ARE rounded off at the ends even if the tail itself isn't very defined. She's just got soft...

Dang! What am I supposed to do with that... I've never harvested a chicken before. She wont lay, right?

It's a Barred. :) As for the gender, pick through it's tail... If the feathers come to a point and aren't very defined, its a rooster. If the feathers are defined and are squared or rounded at the ends, its a pullet... Males also have and arch in the tail. Female's tails create a fan and will be...

Thats a shame! I know RIR tend to be a little more on the aggressive side but I've got my fingers crossed for a good boy! My RIR hen can be wicked at times... But since I've got some older hens in the flock, I'm hoping they'll keep him in check until he matures. :) Thanks for the help!
