    Yes, make sure the water or ice won't cover the exhaust. I have a T to bypass the air, too.

    Put a big bowl of clean water under the exhaust. The heat from the air will prevent the water frozen. The picture was from my previous home. My current home's exhaust is much higher. The setup is a little different, but I think it works too. Our ducks and chickens drink that water everyday...

    I use PVC pipe to direct the exhaust air from furnace or water heater to a big water bowl underneath. The air will prevent the water frozen. It works very well.
