The sex of these ducks has me confused ... while the seller is insistant that the 2 older one are definitely female ... the neck ring and colouring of the older 2 suggest males !!!
Is it possible they are discoloured due to a recessive gene !!!
While looking for saxony ducklings i came across this ad which troubles me ... the yellow seems right but the darker ducklings seem too dark to me ... so could anyone identify what breed they are ???
On a few occasions when i wasnt aware of the eggs development stage i had left the dividers still in ... once i saw they had pipped i quickly removed them ... a few times they had hatched before i realised and found a chick with its head stuck !!!
In short i had a fox attack my broody pen ... i lost 6 silver laced wyandottes and my breeding pair of saxony along with 14 eggs the wyandottes were sitting on that were due to hatch christmas day !!!
1 egg survived which has since hatched but has since died for another reason !!
2 nites later...
I have this incubator ... only thing i have to add is if you leave the dividers in the chicks get there stuck in the dividers ... happened to me a few times !!!
I can only go from my experience from years ago ... temperature and humidity should be the same ... your surface area of water needs to be greater to give yourself greater humidity !!
40% humidity is fine for the first 18 days ... try a sponge or cloth in the water tray ...
I have put the chick with the hen closest ... i am waiting to see if either hen hatches out anymore chicks ... something odd i saw was the chick appeared to have a mark on its neck like it had been bitten ... i should have a clearer picture in the morning !!
So i have a mystery .... i have 2 broodys sitting on eggs which are due anyday now ... so i walk out to the pens before and found a freshly hatched chick outside the boxes but no idea who owns it and no broken egg in either box !!!
So any hints as to work out who owns it ?????
When i originally got my new drake he used to try to barge my rooster and chickens ... puts his head down and runs at them but over time he has grown out of it mostly ... mostly only happens these days if he is eating and the hens get too close to him or his mate !!!
So your drake might get over...
