I haven't but I know a lady who has bought chickens at one such auction. She swears she'll never do it again as the birds turned out to have all kinds of sicknesses that didn't show up until some time later. They were also riddles with mites. I don't think it was a Nelson auction though.
Just out of curiosity... does anybody in the Omaha vicinity have a really broody old hen they'd be willing to let me talk them out of? It's possible I may be interested in acquiring one before long here.
13 week old Rhode Island Red, had her since 1 day old. Brooding inside, so weather isn't a factor. It's probably been there a week or so. My bird eat and drink very well in fact. No other apparent symptoms. They are wormed but unvaccinated. Using medicated feed.
I have two, both are quite friendly. One , That I call Betty Beggar likes to jump on my back or shoulder and nuzzle my neck, She also jumps the treat pan when I bring it out and starts eating before I even put it down. Very social toward me. I recommend the breed
First flock though. I've looked at some pictures online.. I personally don't think she's a roo, but a couple of more experience have said she is.
I'll take some.
It kind of looks like I've got 7 hens and a roo. I think one is a roo anyway. So here's my question. I'm wondering if I should buy an incubator, and if so how big. If I want to use him to hatch new chicks, how long can the fertilized eggs sit before going into the incubator?
7 eggs a day. do...
I have one so far. She's now 6 weeks old. When I told my mother she's and 'Easter Egger', mom starts calling her 'Bunny'. Hope she doesn't turn out to be a roo. I plan to get some more in the spring.
