Chicken Breed Focus - New Hampshire

Hi...this sure looks like an old thread. I got new Hampshire chicks years ago from Jeremy Woepple from Nebraska ( hope I spelled his name right) ..well the last of my cocks (chicks I received from him) died last night..I didn't get to breed any this year cos of his ailing...does anyone know if...

    Incuview Incubator

YES! it's an egg-cellent 'bator. For the price compared to the brisnea 20, I chose the Incuview for wide see thru window, the built in hydrometer, and because it's easy to clean. I was really impressed with its performance. Highly recommend. I've never used the Brisnea, but hear it's good too.

    Incuview Incubator

Cute emo...yes, the Incuview is a great incubator. Since defaulting back to its original settings, it works like a charm. I have 15 eggs in mine at the moment, and the temp / humidity doesn't miss a beat. I highly recommend it. Sorry for taking so long to get back. Been away.

    Incuview Incubator

Hi again! Being lazy and pressed for time, I may be asking a question that's been posted here before, thus forgive me if that's the case. However, I'd like to know is it better to begin incubating all your eggs at the same time, or can I set a doz eggs today, and a week later set another doz...

    Incuview Incubator

Ahhhhh! That's it! My husband changed them on me last year because it got too warm in the kitchen ...so now I reset it back to the factory defaults and it's perfect! Thank you so much!!

    Incuview Incubator

Hi everybody! Can someone help me out with some advice about the IncuView? I bought mine last year and it worked beautifully--maintained its temperature and I hatched out a lovely batch of Buckeye babies. I'm planning to hatch out another batch from eggs I ordered, and set my IncuView up to test...

    The Buckeye Thread

Totally agree, Sydney Acres, because as mentioned by a dairy farmer I know, and who's in the same boat as poultry keepers, finding quality feed is a crap shoot at best. Like she said, we're at the mercy of these feed mills / stores, and all we can do is keep, or try to keep ahead of their...

    The Buckeye Thread

It's been a week since I wrote about (where I can get quality feed with 22% or more protein) buckeye dietary needs...well, I visited a feed mill 2 hours from me, an outfit run by Mennonites; the facility is really clean, and well organized, and very impressive when compared to the organic...

    The Buckeye Thread

I value all opinions! I'm an organic farmer too, small scale, and thought feeding the birds organic feed was great until someone commented on how small my 1 year old bucks are. They thought they were bantams. The organic feed by me is so ground down and so powdery the birds choke on it. So I...

    The Buckeye Thread

I find Jeff Lay's formula to be excellent advice, but my problem is where do I find 50 lb bags of 22-24% chick starter that also contains animal protein? The feed stores in my area have replaced animal protein with plant protein in their formulas which makes it really difficult NOT to serve...

    The Plymouth Rock Breeders thread

I just have to say, these last few posts (2 + pages worth) have been so informative ...thank you for the excellent reads and points to ponder.

    The Plymouth Rock Breeders thread

WOW! Those are some stubby legs. Not even my mutt BPR hen has legs that short. I hope I'll have some rock cocks that will have the long legs. But can't wait to see how my growing female babies will turn out.

Ahhhh....okay, that's kind of what I thought he meant with the exception of the breast. But what happens when all the mothers in your flock exhibit the same tendency; how does one correct for that? Do you out cross?

What do you mean by "scrapin' the ground" ? They drag their feet? dumb Q.?

Proud of my week old XW BPR babies, and notice the pretty light ones? They're my bonus NHs. I couldn't believe it when I opened the box! But shipping kind of knocked them out so I added some organic sugar to their water the first day to bring up their electrolytes (they were so wobbly and out of...

T This is good news indeed, esp. since I was worried that slow feathering was considered a defect...where I got that notion? Probably reading on other threads...I look forward to all the fun stuff with my pure breeds.

OMG Trailchick, I am on pins and needles because of worry and excitement; I just finished setting up their brooder, and crossing my fingers the little angels make it safely...I called the PO too, to alert them that they're coming tomorrow. I'm very grateful for your kind and reassuring post...

    The Plymouth Rock Breeders thread

Well, they're gorgeous works in progress, sir. I was reading though, that 1 -2 lbs over the standard's weight was acceptable, but no more as "such unusually large birds almost invariably get away from the good Plymouth Rock type." -(Lamon and Slocum; The Mating and Breeding of Poultry 1920...
