I used the floor platform as a work table to frame up all the walls.
It made an easy work table and by using small blocks of 2x4 nailed into floor, used as "blocks" it assured everything was square

she seems a bit more active this afternoon when everyone was let out of the run to do yard work. I had my son hold her and I checked her vent and probed around it again (not in it) and pushed....didn't feel anything that felt like a hung egg....
If it is a hung egg; would it be close to...
Another self-bump....sorry
Hoping my post catches someone's eye that can shed some light on the issue. My BA (Jade) seems about the same today. She's eating and alert, but still squatting all the time.

Hmm.. I would put it far enough away to be close enough to the house. Make any sense? Sort of far enough away to keep the neighbors happy. But close enough to be convenient for you to tend to and keep an eye on them. But my answer would be to the right of point A.
Agreed
also...
Not wanting to do an illegal bump here. But I'm a bit worried and in hopes that some folks with more experience can comment on my birds issue.
thanks in advance for any input

21 week old BA (Jade) she's the sweetest girl of my 8. Not positive but believed she had started laying recently. Today she is not with it at all. When I let the flock out of the run to do yard work with me; I noticed she was squatting down all the time. I checked her vent and it's super clean...
Welcome to the site.
your doing it right by researching the options and designs that meet what you want.
Remember this....if the coop is user freindly to you then you will enjoy having birds, if it isn't then...uuuggh. Don't plan so much for X amount of birds or X amount of eggs. Plan something...

Thanks Baymen Moe. I looked at your page a few times and though my coop is not a sweet as yours; it'll do. Level ground would of been nice for my run..... Your first egg looks like mine...small but sign of what is comming. Really like the pic of the youngin's lined up in a row!

the verticles are PT 2x4's they are set in the ground about 16" deep in concrete. I cut an additional piece of 2x4 16" long and nailed it to the bottom of the set 2X4. this gives it more bearing surface in the ground (in the cement).
you can see in my pixs that the heigth is somewhat...

thanks for the compliment on the coop/run. as I wrote it's not done...final tweaking etc. glad to hear your getting into some birds soon. they are a blast, make me laugh, give me eggs, and make me laugh. Sounds like you've done the research and are ready to get rollin'

Yes, treated lumber is more expensive. I only use it for ground contact. Other than that I don't see any advantage of using it. If you try painting what you got you may have to wait a while. Paint doesn't stick too good to new treated lumber. Post some pics. Will

Thanks for the compliments but......
the steps are NO good. 2 BA's parked there butts on the top one blocking acess for the others if they are not already up. then their poop misses the poop board. Reworking the roost situation soon into a two tier ladder.
Haven't posted any construction photos for a few weeks. For the most part it's done. Still need to rework the roost/poop board and put in the external nest boxes. Warmer weather is here so I can lock the girls out of the coop and get these things done. got my first egg Friday..Sat two and today...
It all sounds good.
IMO I'd put the playhouse coop completley inside a fenced run, fence the roof of the run too.
good luck and post some pixs as you get going on it
All depends on a few things
how many birds?
climate year round?
predators?
usability by you?
feasabilty?
there is a thread running where a member has a bunch of playhouses and is making a coop town with them.
Whatever you use make it easy for you first...then the birds....they'll love it all
