Thanks so much DK!! You are so knowledgeable :) I looked it up and tried to buy it but... turns out nobody ships to Canada as you need a prescription o.O
damnit, I think I can get the horse paste with ivermectin but definitely not the 0.1% for small birds.. I will have to see a veterinarian...
Hey guys, I’ve been treating scaley leg mites with oil dips and recently a vitamin A & E cream for the past year or so and now the mites appear to have moved to one of my quails eyelids which I can’t treat with oils or creams :[ so I’m ready to use a medication because these mites HAVE TO GO...
Love the sock idea! :) nearly every single time I hear of bumblefoot in quail it’s from wire - I agree with your guess of dried poop being sharp, causing the bumblefoot.
I also had some quail get bumblefoot from jumping down off a low platform onto sharp edged hay :o
Could you cover the wire...
Some of my quail go through bullying phases - sometimes they last an hour, sometimes a few weeks. I separate them with a partition so they can still see each other but can’t do harm. Eventually (an hour or the next day) try putting the bully back in and supervise. If still bullying stick it back...
Awww that's so great !! I was going to suggest to inform your mother about allllll of the health benefits of quail eggs even curing allergies especially seasonal ones :) (also used in some medicine). then show her some super cute quail egg recipes like cooked in a mushroom and say that in some...
We use cracked corn in the cold months so they can generate more energy for warmth :) both the chickens and quail get it! It's very cheap, too.

How many hours of daylight do they get each day? That seems to be the switch for coturnix quail mail libedo, lol, whether or not the long daylight hours "tell them" it's breeding season.
Update: the five chicks are happy and healthy and when they were about a week old, the broody quail stopped tidbitting for them and wanted to get out. She started doing a pacing/trampling baby thing, sigh
I put her in with an adult group and when she was gone, a baby chirped twice for a few...
Thanks and good luck to your hen @BaJa :D
So... My hen started popcorning and flapping around, sometimes landing on babies and bowling them over because they for the most part follow her every move, and then she started to pace, I think at some hens across from her and babies got in the way of...
Ahh hope it's not rats, they're tricky to catch, something about needing to smell a kind of food on another rats breath to be comfortable enough to consume more than a nibble xD
In case you don't know, rats will plug up their holes with dirt clods, a decaying peach, etc. so they can be...
Made a new thread with mom and the chicks pics and a vid of her tidbitting for them ^^

Hey guys so it looks like out of the ten marked eggs I put under her (she was initially sitting on infertile ones), 5 hatched and 4 were see through when I candled them.
1 looked like it could be developed so I plopped it in my incubator just in case because she gave up sitting on them and...
They HATCHED!!! And she's making the same noises I heard her softly make yesterday but much more and louder like she's almost purring for her chicks in a bossy way?!
I can see three chicks dry and running about and momma is still on the nest so I wonder if more are hatching/drying under her...
Sorry I haven't been posting lately - this afternoon is day 17 and today she has started to make some low sounds and hardly gets off of them whereas two days ago it seemed she was getting up often but then again it was a warm day and today has been a chillier one... Ahhh haha I don't even know...
Super great points and suggestions as well! When I incubate I block off a portion of the brooder (super duper very well - they are amazing at jumping and squeezing into places where they can get stuck, away from the heat so yeah why not do any different for a broody mom? :D
Should I do a...
