I don't have pics, but imagine a box with shed roof suspended on four sunken posts. Hardware cloth skirt. So the coop will be above the run. Ordinary to this point, but this coop will not have a floor, just roosts and a divided nest box. The run will be the new compost bin. All the leaves...
This is just an idea at this point. I have several neighbors who have small layer flocks and "chicken fever" and aren't opposed to chickens as meat. I'm thinking along the lines of getting an incubator and doing regular hatches and giving each member a couple chicks to raise for the freezer...
Somehow, 6 little mice found there way into my feed bin. But only 5 escaped. All the other hens were jealous as Emma paraded around shaking it like a predator would. Emma is our sweetest chicken.

HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey town has adopted an ordinance that regulates when chickens and roosters can hook up in backyard henhouses.
Roosters must show they're disease-free and they better not crow about their conquests.
Hopewell Township residents can...
It is getting bad, seems everyone around here is getting chickens. At least two new coops went up this spring on my street alone. So glad I was there to help and offer some great insights I learned here at BYC. Thanks to all of you.
Was not a big deal at all. I was able to remove all 3-5 inches of pine shavings/saw dust in a few minutes with the garden hoe. After setting in that little coop all winter with 6 hens, I was very surprised how good of shape the shavings were. They could have easily lasted another three...
So I have a 6ft by 8ft fiberglass truck topper coop that is attached to a 3ft high 2x4 constructed frame, wrapped in hardware cloth. My chickens have been happy and safe for nearly a year in there, but I'd like to take my Po'Dunk Hillbilly coop up a few notches in aesthetics and comfort.
Note...
It's time to spring clean the coop and I'm here laughing my butt off on BYC. It can be so hard to break away from all the bantering. I've been down with the flu for a couple days and now I have so much work to do that just thinking about makes me tired.
For all of us who enjoy cycling, be it in the dirt, touring or commuting, tell us about it. Doesn't seem to matter if you ride a Trail 90 or a 150 hp Street fighter, your problems have completely melted away by 3rd gear.
I'm gonna polish up my classic 87 CBR1000 Hurricane and do the spring...
I've been seeing lots of bees in my yard. I think they are from the hives down the street. My friend came over and said she smelled honey (?) and that got me looking around for a hive but it seems they are attracted to the sawdust. Anyone know what might be going on?
If you know please share. If you don't know, I'm working on a spreadsheet to track feed and maintenance costs along with daily egg production for up to 10 chickens by name. I got a lot of refining to do before I share, but if you have suggestions please comment.
The way it works is each day...
I wanted to rescue it, but DW wouldn't let me. I know it is illegal, but I would have gone to great lengths to help it out, but DW has better sense me, I guess. What would you have done?
Our coop's run has chain link fence on the back side facing a construction storage lot. There are tangles of trumpet vines grown in to the fence. I locked the birds up tonight and noticed are 5 year old cat was snuggled up inside the run. She is a good cat and I didn't think it would cause...
I didn't see this thread anywhere, so I took a liberty.
I strung rope lights, and timer 'cause my egg production has dropped to an egg every other day. Added some fresh sawdust and DE. Decided to rub a little "Bag Balm" into their combs and wattles. They really enjoyed that! It made their...
Tootsie Rolls formed to look like "kitty sign" for 7 yr old's Kitty litter B-day cake. Yeah, it's a bit gross, so of course I'll post a pic of finished presentation.
I've given them yogurt, pulp from juicer, apple peels, pumpkins, bananas and they just look at like it is poison. The brave one, Stormy, will test things first and if she wipes her beak, the others walk away. I avoid giving anything moldy, or rancid, but they don't trust me.
They love meat...
