I saw a posting on here earlier how hens love cat food. I only have 2 hens so if I was to start feeding them wet cat food how much and is it ok to give it them daily? And stupid question but is any flavor ok ha ha ha
Well I never would of thought Cayenne Pepper because everything I read says don't get them anything spicy and holy crap cayenne pepper is hot...but going to try. I only have 2 hens just starting out so this has all be so helpful. They are in a coop but everyday I let them out for 3-4 hrs...
Just curious live in No. Calif and curious do we need to treat the hens for mosquitos? We tend to have them bad where we live and we treat our dogs but didn't know if there is something we need to do to protect our hens? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I love all your advice I too am like FloridaFLAcoop....we have had our for a couple of months got them when they were already laying and really enjoying them....They are in a coop but I do try to let them out daily for a couple of hours to free range and dust. I give them green daily plus...
Ok so we are just starting out have a small coop designed to hold 2-4 hens we only have 2...we have it off the ground because we have 3 large dogs....but do you think sand on the bottom and then keeping straw in the nesting area would be good?
No thank you for your honest opinion I wondered if it was too small....since we are just starting out we didn't want a coop to big but told the hubby last night this summer he needs to add on and make it a condo :)
Ok new to raising chickens and so glad I found BYC lots of ideas and have really helped....but started following the thread of deep litter and not sure I follow so you DON"T clean the coop weekly? I clean it several times a week because I thought I read you should keep the nesting area...
No we actually got it from Tractor Supply. Since this is our first time raising we thought we should start out small just in case we didn't like it.....well I can see that I will need a bigger one eventually as I am loving them.
