At the risk of some one stealing my pic, I am still posting it here. I said some time back i was so happy with my new cock I got from John Blehm and the color he throws. Unfortunately I have been very busy and could not show you what I meant by that. Full color tails, just as I believe they...
I like to try and "hover" nearby but outside of the taped off area to listen to the judge(s) as they go through the rows. It's hard to find out why certain birds placed higher or lower than our less experienced eye and even harder to get to a judge afterwards to ask. This way you can learn...
After struggling to improve this for a few years with slow results i finally found the fix. I brought in a new cock. Wheaton with perfectly clean hackles, solid black muff and a deep black color (but strangely no beetling on the black). He throws color like nothing I've ever seen. Solid tail...
I think everyone on this thread will agree with me that EEs are beautiful birds especially if they have muffs and beards. That one of the things we all love about our AMs. I think I speak for all of us that if you have an EE, and come to us for guidance or comments, you will get what you came...
For all of you who enjoy the "AWW" factor, I humbly submit this video of Preemie's first steps. Preemie is the daughter of Sande, who died recently due to the heat wave. I'm glad we worked so hard for her. She is now an intensely colored Wheaten Ameraucana pullet. She had trouble getting out...
100chickens!
Ameoucauna Breeders Club is a good place to start. Also check the auction pages here on BYC, do a search for past auctions in the auction archives with Ameraucana in the title. There you will see pictures of what the people here on BYC have had to offer as far as Ameruacanas in...
My Niece raises both breeds and only those breeds. She just added 3 hens from my flock of Wheatens and they are learning to get along. Surprisingly (to me at least) the RIRs are less aggressive than the Wheaten AmerAUcanas she has mingled into the same flock. The birds she got from my flock...
Hi welcome to the Ameraucan thread.
I think you just touched the third rail on the thread. No one wants to suggest one breeder over another for fear of offending anyone.
I suggest we, here on the thread send a PM with our candid thoughts. Please don't recommend yourself breeders, be candid...
As you may remember, the first hatch was a dismal failure as he had to leave his incubator for 6 days just before hatch and after hatch due to a family medical emergency. When he returned, only 1 bird still lived, a chick which turned out to be a Blue Wheaten male, but he was horribly sick and...
Hi Ameraucana Fans!
I have some astounding news form Europe. I spent about 45 minutes on the phone with the very happy flockmaster this weekend.
For the newbies I will sum up: I am certified and I send hatching eggs overseas, and have had great success.
My last shipment of 6 eggs, 7 months ago...
Another instance of theft by deception.
With the quality breeders here and on the Ameraucana Breeders Club page, with the help offered for free from experienced people to tell you how to cull, why why why would they need to lie by stealing pictures or photo shopping eggs to look more blue? The...
I loved handling the eggs and turning them - made me feel that much closer to them but I also really love the turners we have now. No more worry about little emergencies coming up. Mine go "tick" every so often so I am assured they are still working. I applaud you on turning 120 eggs 3...
Color can fade as the hens' season progresses, but the actual color will not change - just be a more faded hue of the same color. If you are getting white eggs and it's this early in the season, I would be questioning the birds' heritage.
