Had to show this off. The camera didn't quite catch the colour properly, but Bleu's pale-blue egg is in the upper part of the photo, with a store-bought white egg in the lower.
Look how golden the yolk is!
And then the three remaining eggs all lined-up. We ate the first and third.
So...
A little over a month has passed....I've been bad about keeping up with the photos.
These were taken tonight. I am still amazed at how quickly they are growing! Our three older girls are really starting to show red in the combs and wattles, too!
Here's the whole gang enjoying some fresh...
Welcome to the wonderful world of sewing!
It is indeed a grand thing, and can be very relaxing to boot. You have chosen a very good time period to start with, and the Simplicity "period" patterns are relatively easy ones to master. I've been sewing for about 20 years or so, and have enjoyed...
Ours aren't all that messy, but they do have a tendency to enjoy scratching on the ground for the spilled food....even when there is plenty in the feeder. I guess it gives them something different to do.
Congrats! It is VERY hard to leave them out in the coop overnight the first night....I know I checked on ours several times, too, so let your husband know there are others out there just like him.

As far as bunkers go.... I keep coming back to this...

Were I a millionaire, I could build The Hive under my backyard!
Gorgeous collection you have there! I am particularly enamoured with the Welsummer, Lavendar. We have two Wellies that are only about two and a half months old, and I am looking forward to seeing how they turn out.
I'm in Alabama....hot damp summers and cool winters. I sunk our treated posts (painted first) maybe 1-2 feet into the ground that was already pretty solidly packed. The coop was built from the top down (underneath a porch), and most of the weight is borne by the one actual porch-post I built...
I'd recommend honeysuckle. We have that on the back half of our property and it absolutely loves fences. Makes a quick job of covering it up, too....and the smell is quite pleasant.
The good news is you can cut it down completely and it's back again the next year.
Being from the South, I...
Just about everything they do makes us laugh! They are a joy to behold at all times.
A few things that are at the top of the list, though....
When one of them gets ahold of a tasty treat and runs around like a crazy thing playing "keep-away".
How our LB, Kiev, always seems to be interested in...
We introduced the girls to watermelon last night!
At first, they weren't sure what to make of it:
But after a little coaxing, they realized how tasty it was.
All that was left when they were done later that night was the rind!
The Wellies have integrated quite well, though they always...
I can speak from limited personal experience (I am half Quebecois) and from being married to a Canadian....they are a happy people. We could take some lessons from them on certain manners of levity.
Don't know if my DW will read this, but Happy Canada Day, my love!
And Happy Canada Day to all...
