Hi all,
Moving in a couple months and need to really downsize and find homes for my roosters. Roos- $10ea All have been really nice, no flogging as of yet, follow me around and eat out of my hands.
I have 3 Split Black (lavender-carries the lavender gene) Roosters ( roughly 6 months old)...
Wait she is still broody though in her nest box! Maybe I should try the move again but in a small dog kennel..maybe the small coop I put her in was too big.(4x3ish?)
SHould I put her in the dog crate inside the small coop away from the rest of the flock or try try try to find space in the...
I hear ya...saw the same thing over near me too. It was like one of the hottest days and the poor chicks had heat lamps on them- it was so super hot in there with the metal trough reflecting heat...sad. They should put a temp gage in there..it was well over 100 in there.
Yessss... you are probably right..but she had been laying on golf balls for over a week an half..then i would take her off the nest so she wouldn't starve too much yet and she would be back on the nest again and again. Anyway darn it!
So irritated..I have enough chicks already. I got some shipped eggs for my broody (GLW) to be nice and then she won't take them! I moved her to another brooding house last night and this morning the eggs were cold and she was having nothing to do with them. Seems to that putting her in there...
So last week we noticed my gl Wyandotte was acting strange..well we soon discovered she was broody. She has been laying on 2 golf balls. It is probably closer to day5- 6 now...is it too late to get some shipped eggs and set them under her? If so will it seriously mess her up and at that time...
I am on day 19 and I already have 4 out!?( Ameraucanas) I think my temp must have been a little warm? I have Genesis and trusted it to be on the right temp as it says too. I put Welsummers in first too so they should have been the ones hatching early if any..?? But yeah! 3 split black lav...
You might want to write auction on your thread..it would probably draw more people in..?

The Black marans lay a dark egg with a purple hue to them & the birds are totally black and the black coppers have the copper color on them.
I'm pretty sure I will have enough to send to you and I will get shipping prices and totals for you later today. I can ship them all together no...
Maybe check your local Craigslist to see what chickens are going for..It is all relative to the state you live in. CA some go for A$25-$35..depending on breed and age.
I think she ought to try them again...Personally I think fresh eggs taste lighter and fluffier. Maybe she isn't a chicken person and was really over analyzing it? I don't really think not refrigerating them for a little bit is gonna make a huge difference- as long as they weren't in full sun...
Well I just sold two ( extra)laying pullets for $25 ea here in CA.( I need to downsize-got an incubator) But that was the only person who responded to my CL ad. I know that is the going rate for laying pullets around here. Feed stores get about $5 per chick here and some others on CL are...

OMG, I couldn't keep mine in the bedroom..that fan noise is pretty annoying.. I have it out here in the kitchen/computer area and it is humming away now.
Mine are all shipped eggs and some came all the way from PA to CA..so I don't think that with shipped eggs will be the same percentage as your own eggs hatching. Mine are due April 9/10. Haven't candled yet, will do it this SUn.
Yeah, seems to be a million different answers to humidity. I am in the same boat as you with the Hovabator Genesis. I keep having to put a straw through the top and adding more water when it gets to almost low 30% or high 20%. I did add a piece of sponge which dries out quickly. I am trying...
Seriously, I think everyones incubators are full! Because I know Marans are still in high demand. I will be stocking everyone for these in a couple weeks when incubator is empty.
