I have kept her waterer out and no leaks from above. I am truly baffled as to how it got wet. I will candle the eggs tonight. Grr I feel like I am running out of time because I would like to order the chicks today if the eggs are not viable, but guess I need to wait until tonight to see. Ugh!
I was hoping you all could answer a question for me. My broody is due to hatch out her eggs on the 23rd. She has not been getting off the nest at all so today I lifted her off the nest and put her outside. The eggs were covered in wet feathers and what looks like dirt. I really don't think it is...
Mama just hatched out 11 of 12 eggs despite the 15 degree weather. She is a first time broody and just decided freezing cold weather was the best. Lol. Everyone is doing well!
I think I have another broody as of yesterday. This is her first time so I don't want to break her, but I am nervous as winter is approaching fast. This is only my second broody ever. Anyone have experience with broodies in late fall?
Thanks. Mama and baby are doing well. Currently mama is teaching baby how to forage. I am just trying to see the joy in these two. There will be more in the future :)
I still had a really bad feeling so I went and lifted my broody. The chick was dead. It had an external pip but got no further. :( I feel like I could have saved it if I would have looked sooner. I do know though that this is probably best. I might have had a high maintenance chick on my hands.
Yes. There were originally 4 under her. I candled once around day 12, and only 3 were progressing. Then around day 15, 1 egg mysteriously disappeared. Which left only 2. Now I have just 1 chick.
And I am trying so hard to think that way. It was just a bummer. This was my first time and my...
I still had a bad feeling so I decided to go out and check. The chick is dead :( There was an external pip, but it didn't get any farther than that. I wish I would have checked last night. I am so sad. I tried to show my broody, and she still tried to put the egg under her. Poor mama! I picked...
Thank you! I have tried to be hands off. I can't help but be worried. She already disposed of one egg around day 15 that was progressing when I candled around day 12. So I know I should trust her. She is still sitting patiently.
My broody hatched one chick yesterday morning. I have not lifted her at all for fear of hurting an egg or chick. So yesterday around 3 pm she stood just enough for me to sneak a peak of the 2nd egg. It was pipped and the baby was chirping. It is almost 23 hours later and still no chick. Should I...
Could someone offer some advice? Some time early yesterday morning my broody hatched her first chick. I have not lifted her to check in the 2nd egg at all for fear of the chick or the egg getting hurt. Yesterday around 3 pm my broody stood up just enough that I could see the other egg. I saw the...
Help! I am getting worried. The 2nd egg still has not hatched. I noticed an external pip yesterday around 3 pm so it has been about 22 hours. It may have happened before that though...I have no idea how long. Mama is still sitting patiently. Do I try to lift her to see what is going on? She does...
It is so tough to wait. I am getting really anxious because my 2nd egg still has not hatched! Mama is sitting ever so patiently, but I am getting worried.
