Hello all,
I have an order in for baby chicks that should arrive any day now. The current flock has been dwindled down to 2 (from the original 4) hens, and one of them has been broody for weeks. This is my first time adding new chickens to an existing flock so I would appreciate some advice...
I have found red mites on my chickens recently. Reading about Sevin made me a little nervous so I decided to use Spinosad and DE. I know that spinosad is safe for poultry and effective against red mites. But, I went to home depot and bought the only thing with Spinosad I could find: Captain...
So I figured out that my bossy hen will come up and kick her out of the nest box! If I catch her being nasty I'll let the chickens out into the yard and shut the door so she can't bother her, but is there anyway to brake her of this?
My bantam hen had been laying her eggs in the boxes for about a month now but for some reason she decided to stop. I thought maybe the boxes were occupied but she did it even when they were empty. I tried putting her eggs in the boxes and I even tried taking her from where she was laying and...
All right, so I've done a little thinking and I don't think she was pecked. I noticed she was missing her middle toe nail (this happened recently) but didn't think much of it because it happened to another one of my hens about a month ago and it was fine. But when I went to check the coop...
I'm really not sure what happened, she's missing some feathers it looks like and that black stuff might be blood. I'm thinking the other girls pecked her; any ideas? Its only on one side.
I think the red in this next picture might be blood, but the camera made it look much more red than it...
okay, thanks! :) we were going anyway to have our kitten (another rescue) vaccinated anyway. The hardest part about this is going to be finding her, she wanders all over the place!
there is a cat that has lived outside on my block ever since its owner moved away. It is sort of a communnity cat, I feed it and another house may put out some food as well. So today there is a rabies shot clinic at some vet and I was wondering if we should take her? I'm assuming the original...
I'm fairly new to this as well but a dark brown runny poop is supposed to happen once every 8-10 normal poops I think. Also I have 4.5 month old pullets and they've been sneezing somewhat regularly but seem okay. Maybe its just allergies or something. Other than that are they acting fine?
thank you :) just wondering, how do you train a chicken to drink from a nipple waterer? I bought one meant for rabbits because someone said it would be an easier motion for her than lapping and much more pleasant than me giving it to her. Is that okay or can chickens only use ones meant for...
wow, thank you! The temperature thing didn't occur to me but most of what I've been giving her is room temp. Someone I know suggested that she isn't able to drink because without the beak she can't really lap but she may be able to use a nipple waterer if she learns how. I guess she also may not...
