I will be setting some Pilgrim goose and Pekin duck eggs. I might add in some chicken eggs, but haven't decided yet. Looking for local guinea eggs too, but it might still be a little early here in NH.
I'm not holding out much hope for my remaining chicken eggs, though I will leave them in the incubator over the weekend just in case. It just seems weird that I had such a good hatch rate (late as they were) with the ducks, but a really bad one with the chickens. The chickens were someone else's...
2 more duckies hatched over night last night. I get up at 3am to check on everything and there they were, along with my first chicken egg pipped! She pipped sometime before 3 am - I get up now and she's zipping already, WOW they are MUCH MUCH faster than ducks - I have 9 ducks eggs in there...
I'm still hatching over here! I set 29 duck eggs on March 2 at noon. As of today, I have 1 early quitter, 1 late quitter, 16 have hatched, and 10 more that are pipped and working on hatching in the incubator!
I also set 12 chicken eggs on March 11 about 7pm - nothing from them yet, I do hope...
I'm one of those late hatchers - its my first time round and I'm using an LG incubator, I'm betting that my temps were low through incubation and that's what the delay is. I went out and bought a second incubator (another LG - but they are only $35 at TSC) to start my next eggsperiment! haha I'm...
Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone else has ever seen a duckling with an odd red mass on the top of his head. He is acting like a normal ducking. he hatched out just a couple hours ago and is doing good. Anyone know what would cause this? genetics? back luck? bad incubation? Any chance that is...
Thanks for all the reply's, I will go post about this in the duck section. The parents are "feed store" stock pekin ducks and there is one blue swedish male that runs with them - so potential for a cross, but not a crested duck.
I have had a total of 5 hatch so far, everyone is doing well...
Duckies are still hatching left and right! but Ak what is up with this guy?
I'm working and have my helper at home taking these pictures so I don't have specifics, but it seems to be a mass stuck to the top of his head - and it seems like it is attached.
My ducks are hatching like popcorn this morning, lots of pips and 2 popped out in the last 1/2 hour, more on the way! So exciting to see them hatching out of their shells (even if it is just through videos since I am stuck at work today). 2 are pipped on the small end - still waiting on them to...
I still have zero hatches! What is taking them so long! I have a total of 14 pips, and some are working on zipping - but they have been working at it for a while now. They are still active and peeping, I have my humidity up to 80%. My first pip is going on 36 hours since first external pip...
My latest duck to pip pipped at the small end! Do I help him out? He seems to be breathing just fine but it doesn't look like he has any room to move or that he will be able to zip. This is my first incubation, what do I do with the duckling that pipped on the wrong end?
I have 10/28 duck eggs externally pipped this morning. About 4 of them have double pips - does that mean they are soon to zip? Lots of peeping happening. I think they are waiting for the chicken eggs to catch up (I set those 2 days late).
What type of incubator are you using? I have a still air LG, I am hatching out ducks (Pekin) for the first time, I kept my humidity between 40-50% the whole time til lockdown, All but one made it to lock down, I have it at 60% now and have some pips. I have a still air incubator and kept my...
Thanks for the suggestions, reading up on bumble foot. I brought him in for a good swim in the warm bath tub today, he was a bit unsure at first but settled in and started enjoying himself.
Went into lockdown with the duckies and chickies! A little early for the chickies (I set late) but they should be ok. Can't wait to hear them peeping and see them hatch! So excited!
