Let us know how it works out. I would think that freezing them in the shell or some other form of protection (plastic wrap or air tight container) would help prevent the whites from becoming leathery....
I may have to experiment now. I hadn't thought about freezing hard boiled eggs until now.
Hey all,
I recently lost close to 20 of my poultry (hens, roos, and ducks) to the coyote family that has moved in below my property. I have a total of 5 hens with 14 chicks that have been forced to live in a 18 FT * 5 FT green house turned into a coop. This is not ideal, and I am not happy...
This morning I went to open up my chicken coop per usual, however before I reached the door knob I heard the sound of chirping coming from inside. Low and behold as soon as the door was opened I saw 7 little black fuzzballs hoping around the coop floor, mama nearby (I thought she was a goner as...
Good afternoon!
I am looking to enter our Black Japanese Bantam Roo into the fair (just for the heck of it), and was wondering what to look for regarding show qualities. I have done a little research and (I never thought I would say this about Bonsai) I think his legs are too long. How short...
These you for the tips. Unfortunately by the time i got back home one had passed and the other passed 5 minutes after i got back :-( but I guess I at least have the poultry electrolytes on hand now if i need them again.
Last Friday I had a hen come home with 8 chicks. This morning there were only 7, which I know happens. Especially when mama stays outside the coop at night and I have no idea where she is nesting.
But there are 2 other chicks that weren't scratching or milling around with mama like the others...
Thanks, he is awesome :-)
Last night he actually refused to come inside. My mama hen who just hatched out 8 chicks decided the coop wasn't good enough so she made a nest just outside the coop. Nanuq sat guard all night to make sure nothing got her or the chicks.
I even tried to get him to...
Dotty passed away yesterday while I was at work. When I picked her up to inspect her I could see all the inside her.... I didn't see any egg or any blockage... of course one could have passed/broke and the other chickens could have eaten it before I got there.
But I am not 100% positive she...
Hey there BYC peeps.
I have a blue laced red wyandotte named Dotty. Last month Dotty was bleeding from her behind, and it almost looked like part of her innards were trying to come out . It cleared up after about a week and we found a bloody egg in the coop around the same time it cleared up...
Here are a few pictures of me with pets and family :-)
This is my puppy Calypso. She was 8 weeks in this picture (she is now 5.5 months and 60 pounds)
This is my ki-cat Killer... she is 13 years old and we almost lost her last year to fatty liver syndrome.
...This is one of my all time...
I know! I can't get enough of their cute little fuzzy butts! They are so much smaller than any of the chicks I have bought and brought home (could be because the rooster is a Banty... so I am sure they will all be tiny chickens).
I am counting down the hours until I get to go home and watch...
Hey all,
I have a flock of 36 chickens, and 7 of them are reaching their 7th and 8th years. I am expecting them to start dying off from old age. I have had many people tell me to just cull them because they aren't laying much anymore, but with them being my pets they are a part of the family...
