We have Modern Game Bantams and the hens do this to. They'll lay everyother day for a bit...then break for a week or two. My daughter has a really nice pair of Golden Sebrights she is working with for showmanship and this little hen does the same thing and since she's the only one its a big...
I've only had or seen soft eggs from a stressed hen...I've added oyster shell for brittle eggs but never soft. Not saying thats the problem...really have never seen 4 in a row from a hen. Hmm srry I couldn't be of any help but I'll be interested to see others suggestions!
Hey even when I have plans I find myself "winging it" on the fly because in the middle of building I'll have a break through moment of "hey this would work better" lol. Coop building is fun...total stress release for me! Enjoy it!
When I've helped chicks I do like you did then kinda assist in the neck/head coming out of the shell. I would peel that piece of shell under its head just a tab more so he can basically stretch his neck out. In mine they'll kinda hang out half in half out of the shell for a bit resting (hatching...
I collect all week (Fri-Thurs) and set on Fridays. I keep the eggs in a plastic basket on my dresser...average temp in the house is about 77-80 and humidity about 50. I personally only keep eggs a maximum of 12 days if I'm unable to set on Fri. I've hatched shipped eggs successfully in the past...
I'm in your same boat:)! I've got two pips and 6 I'm still waiting on...not to mention the 4 that pipped and zipped this afternoon:). So far 2 serama's (from shipped eggs...Castle Delight Serama's...zoomommy I think is her byc name), a vorwerk and cocking bantam from our own eggs. The pips are...
If it was in decent condition I wouldn't baulk @ the 200 price tag...my main problem is him not letting you see it unless you commit to buy it. That is completely ridiculous! That would worry me. 200 for a decent coop where you don't have to invest alot of time or money to finish it off isn't...
This is great! We have lots of pairs and the kid are hounding for serama's...from what I've read they aren't as temp tolerant as some bigger breeders so we have a 10x10 shed we are converting to a chicken house (with cages) and will also use it for our brooders one day.
I have several outdoor...
My daughter has a pair and just loves them:). The pair she has aren't really highstrung or stand-offish. Most people don't know what they are when they see them but think they are pretty birds:). Ours are bantams.
Hi my kids show in 4H and we are looking for sumatra (blue or black) and Modern Game (any color). If you are within driving distance we are intrested in pairs/trios/quads of any age...and we are also intrested in fertile eggs:). We don't want crosses or mixes (4H expects them to be "pure" for...
I'll be there Saturday to pick up some favs for my son but we are also looking for sumatra's and game birds (not the old english although my daughter would like another self blue hen for her pair) if anyone is bringing some please let me know:)!

Wow she didn't have to do all that. They came out once...took a sick bird for testing and pulled ten samples...3 months later retested and sent her her NPIP card or whatever it is you get when you pass. I can't imagine the PITA to have to get the vet out.
My chickens are on stike lol:P

It's been hit or miss with...
I hope I posted this in the right place:).
I know what NPIP, who to ccall, all that stuff. My question relates to what happened to a friend of mine...
She had a sick bird, a few really, so she called the NPIP guy to come out and inspest her flock in hopes of getting to the bottom of it (she...
