    House sitting question

We pay $300 a week, for adult care takers. Its alot of responsability, in my eyes. We have tried the teenager route and that hasnt worked. I want quality consistant care and I am willing to pay for it.

    The demise of honey bees

I keep my farm as clean chemical wise as possible to help the little buggers. We also capture and release any that get into the house. I also leave certain areas non brushhogged so they have some goldenrod for food. As far as Monarchs we do not weedwack milkweed. I get asked whats the deal with...

1 million pounds of food per 3 acres

It is amazing how much you can grow in a small space. Every year I am amazed at the yields I get from my raised beds. I seriously wish to look into hydroponics. Thankyou for the great thread!

Choosing a good farm to purchase from?

Rule of thumb-- If you see a red flag ....avoid. seriously there are many reasons not to have people to your farm. Some people live alone and worry about creepers. Some worry about the sprained my ankle lawsuit. Some worry about the CL scoopers, that dont buy the item, but turn up later and...

Suggestions for attire in this situation?

I work with horses everyday, and have done so my entire life. I wear riding breeches. They are VERY comfortable, sturdy, long lasting, and come in dark colors as to hide stains. I find you do alot of crouching, bending, squatting, etc and they are made for this. They move with you and dont bind...

    Frugal Frugal Frugal!!!

well for someone as addicted to gardening as I am living frugal isnt so bad when it comes to food. I love tomato sandwichs, anyone else? I save about 80 bucks a month not running the dryer. My one acre homestead

As far as backyard farming, be careful it is a very addictive lifestyle. Things on you drawing look great. Every year you tend to add something more. Like a fruit tree or asparagus patch, or garlic, or rhubarb. I think you see the pattern. Anyways I am happy for you to be exploring this, you...

    Nosy neighbors

I am so blessed to live in a very rural area. I really dont have many neighbor problems, mostly everyone keeps to themselves, unless some one needs help, then everyone pitches in. My mother lives in town. Her story is a totally different one. Her one set of neighbors ( a couple in their golden...

    Heirloom Yields?

I think my favorites are Jaune gros De Paris, and Blue hubbard. Pumpkin pie made with Jaune has no equal. And what would thanksgiving be without the old fashion taste of Blue Hubbard? Still its hard to beat tossing acorn squash in the microwave and giving them a quick zap--- presto insta meal...

    Heirloom Yields?

I use Baker Creek Seeds and have never had a problem. They seem to be the only ones that are able to keep up with my gardening passion. Yeah I gotta real problem. Usually 20 or more kinds of winter squash. 6 to 10 kinds of summer squash. Tomatoes I think I was in the neighborhood of 15 or 18...

A case for marriage or My cousin died

It is a very good point that one should have their ducks in a row(so to speak) so when things happen..... That being said I think I finally have DH convinced a trip to the lawyer this summer is of the upmost importance.Trouble is he is a wait until its an emergency of epic proportions then do...
