First timer here! Before lockdown I checked the remaining 8 eggs that had live chicks, I put them in lockdown on day 17 ( I thought it was 18 but realized you don't count the day you put them in ) day 19 eggs were wiggling etc, now NOTHING, no smells , no sounds , nothing! Lol! Should I candle...
First time incubating , using a still air Little Giant 9200, started with 16 silkie eggs, 2 infertile tossed on day 10, 6 early death which I tossed today ( day 13) , I was holding on to the " maybe " that they may be underdeveloped but there's a pretty clear difference between the live babies...
( 3 1/2 week old )Ok I thought I was buying Cochin frizzles but apperantly only 1 turned frizzle, it's seems to be developing its feathers slower also...any idea on cockrell verses pullet?
So I bought pullets with a 99.9 % chance of pullet but this one is looking funny.....I swear a herd a crow coming from somewhere (MAYBE lol) and this one is taller, larger feet etc then...He/she is 4 months old. What do you think?.
So I feel like this experience with fertile eggs etc has been a bad one!! First I got rotten eggs the cracked eggs and finally when I have good eggs and I even see development my hen seems to be off the nest a lot today!!..How long until the chicks will die and should I try to save them some...
Ok...Finally I think I can relax a little after all the egg problems I've had. First batch of fertile eggs were rotten, the second batch half of the 12 that were sold to me were broken(so who knows about the other 6)...SO I found people who seem a lot more experienced and less shady. I was...
So the first batch were duds. Now I bought from a new person and with close examination I see 6 out of 12 are cracked! Now I feel like I have to but more just in case these are bad also!! I may pick up 3 more eggs today..is it ok to put eggs under a hen with 5 hour difference?
So I was right all 6 eggs I bought off craigslist were ROTTEN!!!! I cracked them open. Well I found some 5 day old chicks that I want to try to put under my broody...Any opinions..too old? I will get them tonight based on input..thanks!!!
Ok so I candled on day 6 and 7 and really thought for SURE no chicks! Now it's day 8..a couple of the eggs have a large air pocket but NO VEINS, MOVEMENT or DOTS! I'm confused ....Could they just be more solid because of the warmth or is this a good sign? I see nothing more then an air pocket...
I bought them off craigslist ..at day 7 I candled them and things aren't looking good. Contents of eggs look jelly like and I see no veins....I'm thinking about getting chicks and puttung them under her or starting over ...Opinions???
I do my daily collecting of nonfertile eggs checking on my broody. Today one of the eggs was about a foot from the nest and cold! How long before it dies..it's at 5-6 days incubation.
So I tried to candle my hens eggs at 6 days incubation. I used an LED small flash light in the coop while she was taking a break. I couldn't even see past the shell. Is there a particular way it must be done? How dark does it have to be and what's the best source of light to see past the shell?
I bought the eggs from someone of craigslist, if for some reason they don't hatch can I put chicks under her on day 23-25? ..Someone told me you can sneak them in at night. Hopefully I won't have to worry but just want to be prepared.
Reason I ask is because I bought some fertile eggs from someone on craigslist and he had tons of eggs. Made me question is mine were fresh enough? They weren't in the fridge and hadn't been washed so that good, just not sure how old they were. Anyone know?
So the last 3 days my Blue Cochin has been on the nest most of the time and takes maybe three 3-7 min breaks. Weird thing is she isn't aggressive and doesn't make noises when I put my hands by her. I just put 6 bantam eggs under her. When I went to open the coop door she sat there but when I put...
